Arithmetic of Pell surfaces

open access: yes, 2011
We define a group stucture on the primitive integer points (A,B,C) of the algebraic variety Q_0(B,C)=A^n, where Q_0 is the principal binary quadratic form of fundamental discriminant \Delta and n is a fixed integer greater than 1.

Inverse kinematics of asymmetric octahedral variable geometry truss manipulator with obstacle avoidance through inexact interior point optimization

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, 2018
This article studies the inverse kinematics for asymmetric octahedral variable geometry truss manipulator with obstacle avoidance. The inverse kinematics problem is cast as a nonconvex optimization that having quadratic objective function subject to ...

Quantum-Assisted Cluster Analysis on a Quantum Annealing Device

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2018
We present an algorithm for quantum-assisted cluster analysis that makes use of the topological properties of a D-Wave 2000Q quantum processing unit. Clustering is a form of unsupervised machine learning, where instances are organized into groups whose ...

Structural change detection in ordinal time series.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Change-point detection in health care data has recently obtained considerable attention due to the increased availability of complex data in real-time. In many applications, the observed data is an ordinal time series.

Bayesian Estimation Improves Prediction of Outcomes After Epilepsy Surgery

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We estimated the statistical power of studies predicting seizure freedom after epilepsy surgery. We extracted data from a Cochrane meta‐analysis. The median power across all studies was 14%. Studies with a median sample size or less (n ≤ 56) and a statistically significant result exaggerated the true effect size by a factor of 5.4, while the ...

Sex differences in medication discontinuation in axial spondyloarthritis.

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective We examined sex differences in medication discontinuation among patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) initiating tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi), interleukin‐17 inhibitors (IL‐17i), or Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKi). Methods Using data from the Rheumatology Informatics System for Effectiveness (RISE) Registry (2003–2025), we ...

Quadratic Unconstrained Binary Optimization Approach for Incorporating Solvency Capital into Portfolio Optimization

open access: yesRisks
In this paper, we consider the inclusion of the solvency capital requirement (SCR) into portfolio optimization by the use of a quadratic proxy model. The Solvency II directive requires insurance companies to calculate their SCR based on the complete loss

Adiabatic quantum linear regression

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
A major challenge in machine learning is the computational expense of training these models. Model training can be viewed as a form of optimization used to fit a machine learning model to a set of data, which can take up significant amount of time on ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Some new canonical forms for polynomials

open access: yes, 2013
We give some new canonical representations for forms over $\cc$. For example, a general binary quartic form can be written as the square of a quadratic form plus the fourth power of a linear form.
