Linear partitioning in binary solutions
Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 2000In a continuous binary solution, the partition coefficient, expressed as a ratio of mole fractions of one component in two phases, is linear against the composition of one of the phases (the numerator phase) if the exchange coefficient KD is constant. Linearity is found in some distilling liquids, many silicate and metal alloy melts, and many mineral ...

The modified quasichemical model I—Binary solutions
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B, 2000Further improvements to the modified quasichemical model in the pair approximation for short-range ordering in liquid and solid solutions are presented. The energy of pair formation is expanded in terms of the pair fractions rather than the component fractions, and coordination numbers are permitted to vary with composition.

Light Scattering from Binary Solutions
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1969The spectrum of the light scattered by a binary solution is calculated from thermodynamic fluctuation theory and the linearized hydrodynamic equations appropriate to a two-component fluid. The spectrum consists of three peaks. Expressions are obtained for the positions and widths of the two-side, Brillouin peaks.

Non‐Ideal Behaviour and Solution Interactions in Binary DMSO Solutions
ChemPhysChem, 2015AbstractThe structure and dynamics of hydrogen‐bonded structures are of significant importance in understanding many binary mixtures. Since self‐diffusion is very sensitive to changes in the molecular weight and shape of the diffusing species, hydrogen‐bonded associated structures in dimethylsulfoxide–methanol (DMSO–MeOH) and DMSO–ethanol (DMSO–EtOH ...

Solute-solute separations of binary-solute solutions using formed-in-place membranes
Desalination, 1996Abstract The nanofiltration of binary-solute solutions containing 0.02–0.50 M lactose and 0.02–1.0 M NaCl with a dynamically formed Zr(IV) hydrous oxide-polyacrylate membrane has been investigated. The dependence of the selectivity defined as the ratio of electrolyte passage to nonelectrolyte passage on the concentrations of the components was ...

Nucleation versus spinodal decomposition in confined binary solutions
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2007Basic features of spinodal decomposition, on one side, and nucleation, on the other side, and the transition between both mechanisms are analyzed within the framework of a generalized thermodynamic cluster model based on the generalized Gibbs approach.

On Simple Binary Solid Solutions
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1947The effect of difference in atomic volume between two components of a simple binary solid solution on the phase equilibrium curves is investigated by calculating the energy of deformation required to replace a smaller atom by a larger atom, and vice versa.

Crystallization kinetics in binary solid solution-aqueous solution systems
American Journal of Science, 2006Phenomenological description of crystallization kinetics in a binary system "aqueous solution-solid solution" is given. This approach involves consideration of the true equilibrium and possible quasi-equilibrium states. It gives description of the crystallization kinetics close to equilibrium and features of the growth process occurring at high driving

Convergence of eclipsing binary solutions
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1983Attention is called to the fact that convergence to negligible corrections in differential corrections solutions usually can be achieved, provided that one or both of two common causes of poor convergence are recognized and properly dealt with.

Self-diffusion in dilute binary solid solutions—II
Acta Metallurgica, 1955Abstract In order to account for the diffusion phenomena observed in dilute silver solid solutions, we proposed in an earlier paper that these solutions may be considered to consist of a matrix of undisturbed solvent containing nonoverlapping “soft” regions around each solute atom.
