Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

GW170817: A Short Review of the First Multimessenger Event in Gravitational Astronomy

open access: yesGalaxies
The first detection of gravitational waves from the binary black merger GW150914 started the era of gravitational astronomy. The observation of the binary neutron star merger GW170817 and of its associated electromagnetic counterpart GRB 170817A started ...

Using binary statistics in Taurus-Auriga to distinguish between brown dwarf formation processes

open access: yes, 2017
Whether BDs form as stars through gravitational collapse ("star-like") or BDs and some very low-mass stars constitute a separate population which form alongside stars comparable to the population of planets, e.g. through circumstellar disk ("peripheral")

The Mass of the Black Hole in Cygnus X-1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Cygnus X-1 is a binary star system that is comprised of a black hole and a massive giant companion star in a tight orbit. Building on our accurate distance measurement reported in the preceding paper, we first determine the radius of the companion star ...

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

A Million Three-body Binaries Caught by Gaia

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Gaia observations have revealed over a million stellar binary candidates within ∼1 kpc of the Sun, predominantly characterized by orbital separations >10 ^3 au and eccentricities >0.7.

Search for gravitational waves from low mass compact binary coalescence in LIGO’s sixth science run and Virgo’s science runs 2 and 3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We report on a search for gravitational waves from coalescing compact binaries using LIGO and Virgo observations between July 7, 2009, and October 20, 2010.

Can we distinguish low mass black holes in neutron star binaries?

open access: yes, 2018
The detection of gravitational waves from coalescing binary neutron stars represents another milestone in gravitational-wave astronomy. However, since LIGO is currently not as sensitive to the merger/ringdown part of the waveform, the possibility that ...

Supergiant Binary Stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1974
It is pointed out that the energy radiated by HD 101584 (F2e Iap) at IR frequencies cannot be convincingly explained by thermal reradiation from atmospheric grains. It is theorized that this energy emission can be explained by assuming that the F supergiant has an M supergiant companion responsible for IR radiation.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.
