Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.

Pairing mechanisms for binary stars

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, 2008
AbstractKnowledge of the binary population in stellar groupings provides important information about the outcome of the star forming process in different environments. Binarity is also a key ingredient in stellar population studies and is a prerequisite to calibrate the binary evolution channels.

Enlarging habitable zones around binary stars in hostile environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Habitable zones are regions around stars where large bodies of liquid water can be sustained on a planet or satellite. As many stars form in binary systems with non-zero eccentricity, the habitable zones around the component stars of the binary can overlap and be enlarged when the two stars are at periastron (and less often when the stars are at ...

Elucidating prognostic significance of purine metabolism in colorectal cancer through integrating data from transcriptomic, immunohistochemical, and single‐cell RNA sequencing analysis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low expression of five purine metabolism‐related genes (ADSL, APRT, ADCY3, NME3, NME6) was correlated with poor survival in colorectal cancer. Immunohistochemistry analysis showed that low NME3 (early stage) and low ADSL/NME6 (late stage) levels were associated with high risk.

Binary Star Database (BDB): New Developments and Applications

open access: yesData, 2018
Binary star DataBase (BDB) is the database of binary/multiple systems of various observational types. BDB contains data on physical and positional parameters of 260,000 components of 120,000 stellar systems of multiplicity 2 to more than 20, taken from a

Thermal Effects in Binary Neutron Star Mergers

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
We study the impact of finite-temperature effects in numerical-relativity simulations of binary neutron star mergers with microphysical equations of state and neutrino transport in which we vary the effective nucleon masses in a controlled way.

A large‐scale retrospective study in metastatic breast cancer patients using circulating tumour DNA and machine learning to predict treatment outcome and progression‐free survival

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...

Stars stripped in binaries -- the living gravitational wave sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Binary interaction can cause stellar envelopes to be stripped, which significantly reduces the radius of the star. The orbit of a binary composed of a stripped star and a compact object can therefore be so tight that the gravitational radiation the system produces reaches frequencies accessible to the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA). Two such

Microglial reprogramming: a potential new frontier in enhancing immunotherapy for melanoma brain metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Microglia act as tumor suppressors during brain metastasis colonization but shift to a tumor‐promoting role after melanoma brain metastases form. NF‐κB/RelA signaling emerges as a key driver of this phenotypic shift. Targeting this pathway reprograms microglia into a pro‐inflammatory state, enhancing antitumor immunity and immune checkpoint inhibitor ...
