Aging Impacts Basic Auditory and Timing Processes
We investigated if and how aging impacts basic timing processes in audition. Healthy young and older individuals listened to isochronous auditory sequences while we recorded their EEG. Analyses showed increased event‐related responses and 1/F, but reduced phase coherence in older individuals.

In noisy environments, the attenuation of task‐irrelevant auditory processing is crucial for maintaining performance. Here, we demonstrate that the processing of task‐irrelevant meaningful speech can be disproportionately attenuated under high task demands, compared to meaningless control stimuli.
