Binomial Coefficients and Identities in Combinatorial Geometric Series

open access: yes
The coefficient of each term in combinatorial geometric series refers to a binomial coefficient. This paper discusses the binomial coefficients in combinatorial geometric series and presents its binomial expansions and combinatorial ...

Pro‐Organic by Design: Choice Architecture Shaping Online Organic Grocery Purchases

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Consumer uptake of organic food is shaped by both personal values and the way choices are structured in the retail environment. Unlike prior research, we here investigate how elements of supermarket choice architecture influence organic choices.

On sums of binomial coefficients and their applications

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 2008
In this paper we study recurrences concerning the combinatorial sum $[n,r]_m=\sum_{k\equiv r (mod m)}\binom {n}{k}$ and the alternate sum $\sum_{k\equiv r (mod m)}(-1)^{(k-r)/m}\binom{n}{k}$, where m>0, $n\ge 0$ and r are integers. For example, we show that if $n\ge m-1$ then $$\sum_{i=0}^{\lfloor(m-1)/2\rfloor}(-1)^i\binom{m-1-i}i [n-2i,r-i]_m=2^{n-

Restricted Tweedie stochastic block models

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract The stochastic block model (SBM) is a widely used framework for community detection in networks, where the network structure is typically represented by an adjacency matrix. However, conventional SBMs are not directly applicable to an adjacency matrix that consists of nonnegative zero‐inflated continuous edge weights.

A goodness‐of‐fit test for regression models with discrete outcomes

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract Regression models are often used to analyze discrete outcomes, but classical goodness‐of‐fit tests such as those based on the deviance or Pearson's statistic can be misleading or have little power in this context. To address this issue, we propose a new test, inspired by the work of Czado et al.

Anticommutative Associative Algebras And The Binomial Theorem

open access: yes, 2020
We examine the binomial theorem and its components in a noncommutative associative algebra. Specifically, we examine the relationship between the 1-binomial and -1-binomial coefficient, as well as exploring alternatives for the exponential identity for ...

Stochastic Gradient Descent in High Dimensions for Multi‐Spiked Tensor PCA

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We study the high‐dimensional dynamics of online stochastic gradient descent (SGD) for the multi‐spiked tensor model. This multi‐index model arises from the tensor principal component analysis (PCA) problem with multiple spikes, where the goal is to estimate the unknown signal vectors within the N$N$‐dimensional unit sphere through maximum ...

Kinetic Contribution to the Arbitrary Order Odd Frequency Moments of the Dynamic Structure Factor

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT An exact expression is derived for the kinetic contribution to the odd (arbitrary order) frequency moments of the dynamic structure factor via a finite summation that features averages of even (all lower orders) powers of the momentum over the exact momentum distribution.

Measurable residual disease by multicolor flow cytometry in acute myeloid leukemia: A comparison of peripheral blood and bone marrow

open access: yesCytometry Part B: Clinical Cytometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Measurable residual disease (MRD) monitoring by multiparameter flow cytometry (MFC) is well established in bone marrow (BM) samples for acute myeloid leukemia (AML), but its use in peripheral blood (PB) remains less developed. We adapted a semi‐automated and well validated MFC‐MRD assay, originally developed for BM, to PB aiming to evaluate ...

Self‐Reported Versus Objectively Logged Social Media Use: Implications for Measurement in Eating Disorder Research

open access: yesInternational Journal of Eating Disorders, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Self‐reported frequency measures of social media use (e.g., “How often do you use social media?”) are convenient, yet their criterion validity against objective behavioral data remains largely untested in eating disorder research. We compared self‐reports of TikTok use with objective data extracted from TikTok datafiles.
