Henry Briggs. The Binomial Theorem Anticipated

The Mathematical Gazette, 1961
One of the pleasant aspects of research into mathematical history is the way in which existing material, passed over in the conventional account, may allow us not only to establish the bare, if unexpected, fact of a priority but, more importantly, to assess the significance of major currents in mathematical thought with greater precision.

The binomial theorem for hypercomplex numbers

1999
This paper is devoted to the generalization of a binomial theorem for the algebra of real quaternions and for paravectors of the real Clifford algebra \(Cl_{0,n}\) (here denoted by \(C_n\)!). Since both structures are non-commutative it is difficult to calculate corresponding coefficients.

The Binomial Theorem in Characteristic p

1995
The binomial theorem describes how to expand the sum of two terms raised to a positive integer power. It implies that the pth power map is a ring homomorphism on rings of characteristic p. One consequence of this fact is new proofs of Fermat’s and Euler’s theorems.
