Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Bio‐Based Aliphatic Polyurethanes Through ADMET Polymerization in Bulk and Green Solvent [PDF]

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, 2013
A new route to α,ω‐diene urethane monomer is proposed by converting 10‐undecenoic acid into the corresponding acyl azide, followed by urethanization with 10‐undecenol. ADMET polymerizations of this α,ω‐diene urethane monomer as well as other bio‐based α,ω‐dienes bearing various organic functions (ester, carbonate, ether, amide) were carried out in bulk

The Pretreatment of Lignocelluloses With Green Solvent as Biorefinery Preprocess: A Minor Review

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Converting agriculture and forestry lignocellulosic residues into high value-added liquid fuels (ethanol, butanol, etc.), chemicals (levulinic acid, furfural, etc.), and materials (aerogel, bioresin, etc.) via a bio-refinery process is an important way ...

The use of a supercritical carbon dioxide-based solvent as a cost effective and environmentally sound alternative to current photoresist stripping solvents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Plan BThe semiconductor industry is facing challenges that involve the use of photoresist stripping solvents. This literature review compares the current solvents used, namely sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide and N-methylpyrrolidine, to an alternative

Bio-based solvents as entrainers for extractive distillation in aromatic/aliphatic and olefin/paraffin separation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The use of a wide range of bio-based solvents as entrainers in extractive distillation applications was investigated. The separation of hydrocarbon mixtures containing aromatic and aliphatic compounds is highly relevant, and the use of bio-based solvents

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Dihydrolevoglucosenone (Cyrene) as a bio-based green alternative to organic solvents for the preparation of supramolecular gels consisting of self-assembling dipeptide derivatives

open access: yes, 2023
Herein, we describe the use of Cyrene, a bio-based green solvent, to prepare supramolecular gels composed of self-assembling dipeptide derivatives. The gelation behavior was evaluated using a conventional tube-inversion method.

Solubility study and thermodynamic modelling of succinic acid and fumaric acid in bio-based solvents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The solubility and involved energies of organic acids in green solvents are relevant to the design of sustainable biorefinery downstream processes. In this work, the solubility of two important bio-based organic acids such as succinic acid and fumaric ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.
