Regulating the Degradation and Cytocompatibility Behavior of Additively Manufactured Pure Zinc Through Post‐Processing Surface Treatments

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Zinc‐based biodegradable metals are promising implant materials, and additive manufacturing offers a powerful route for their patient‐specific fabrication. However, process‐induced surface defects can accelerate degradation and compromise biocompatibility, rendering post‐processing essential.

Thermo‐Kinetic Design of Magnesiothermic Reduction for Morphology‐Retaining Porous Si@C Anodes

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 55, 1 October 2026.
Balancing Mg‐vapor supply and surface consumption during magnesiothermic reduction suppresses particle aggregation and preserves monodisperse morphology in porous Si@C spheres. The resulting architecture improves transport uniformity and reduces degradation within the electrode, leading to more stable high‐capacity cycling than aggregated counterparts ...

DNA Origami Uptake in Y‐79 Retinoblastoma Cells Driven by Oligolysine Coating

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
We show that polymeric coating can enable DNA origami nanoparticle internalization into ocular retinoblastoma cells. Not only are the coated nanoparticles well‐tolerable to the cells, but they also remain mobile in the vitreous of a porcine ex vivo model.

Surface Chlorophyll‐a Trends in the Mediterranean Sea: Seasonal Bloom Dynamics and Drivers

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Chlorophyll‐a (Chl‐a) is the most widely used proxy for phytoplankton biomass, bloom intensity, and trophic status in marine ecosystems. We analyzed 27 years (1998–2024) of 1 km‐resolution satellite‐derived Chl‐a data across the Mediterranean Sea and evaluated long‐term trends, bloom phenology, and seasonal variability in relation to sea ...

The oxygen and pressure physiology of upper elevational range limits in insects

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 10, Page 3020-3033, October 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Climate warming is widely expected to cause montane insects to shift upslope, and there is good evidence that some populations are doing so. Nevertheless, patterns are mixed—with evidence supporting upslope, downslope or even no movement of both lower and upper range ...
