Hierarchical Assembly as a Design Principle: Structure–Property Relationships Linking Biological Architectures to Functional Aggregate Materials

open access: yesAggregate, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2026.
Biological function arises from aggregates rather than from molecules. Comparing biomimetic systems on a common basis reveals three transferable design rules governing hierarchical assembly, interfacial gradients, and stimulus‐coupled anisotropy, and identifies self‐healing and single‐step multiscale integration as properties that do not transfer to ...

Liquid Metals as Dynamic and Programmable Catalysts for Photocatalysis

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 18, Issue 18, 28 September 2026.
Adaptive liquid metals enable dynamic metal–semiconductor interfaces that boost light absorption and charge separation. Serving as electronic and plasmonic platforms, they drive advanced photocatalysis. This review outlines key mechanisms, design strategies, and applications for solar fuels and environmental cleanup.

Adsorption of Molecular Nitrogen on Nickel‐Based Catalysts Studied by Infrared Spectroscopy

open access: yesChemistryEurope, Volume 4, Issue 9, September 2026.
N2 adsorption on Ni/SiO2 catalysts was found to be apparently structure‐insensitive when probed by Infrared spectroscopy. As shown by density functional theory calculations, this is because, although different nickel surface sites bind N2 with varying adsorption enthalpies, they all result in nearly identical N≡N stretching vibrational frequencies. The

Oxidative Fast Pyrolysis Enabling Autothermal Production of Porous Functionalized Biochar and Anhydrosugar/Phenol‐Rich Bio‐Oil From Biomass

open access: yesCarbon Energy, Volume 8, Issue 9, September 2026.
Oxidative fast pyrolysis of biomass enables autothermal production of value‐added products. ABSTRACT Oxidative fast pyrolysis can potentially overcome the heat‐supply bottleneck of conventional fast pyrolysis by enabling autothermal operation while also tailoring product quality through controlled oxygen addition.
