BioMates - Bio-oil, validating AFP

open access: yes, 2022
Ablative fast pyrolysis (AFP) is the first step in the BioMates-concept for producing bio-based intermediates (BioMates) with reliable properties from stalk-type biomass. These intermediates are designed for co-processing within conventional refineries. The H2020-project BioMates validates the process concept (www.biomates.eu).

Effects of Molecular Designs and Double‐Network Morphologies for Bioadhesive Semiconductors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study establishes molecular‐to‐mesoscale design rules for bioadhesive semiconducting polymers (BASCs). It identifies how side‐chain length, double‐network formation, and film thickness modulate adhesion strength and electronic performance, providing insight into the rational design of intrinsically adhesive semiconductors for stable and efficient ...

Optimization and characterization of bio-oil produced from Ricinus communis seeds via ultrasonic-assisted solvent extraction through response surface methodology

open access: yesSustainable Environment Research, 2018
As the world confronts a surging price of fuel along with various environmental issues, researchers around the globe are scrambling to identify and develop potential biofuel feedstocks that fall outside the “food or fuel dilemma”. This justifies the need

Mechanochromism of Glassy Polymers Enabled by a Loop‐Forming Supramolecular Mechanophore

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The supramolecular mechanophore LOOP is covalently introduced into glassy polymers, capable of reporting force‐induced pre‐failure damage and local fracture events in polymer glasses. Under different mechanical deformation modes, including grinding, tensile stretching, and scratching, LOOP probes irreversible events in polymer glasses through a ...

Steam reforming of bio-oil: Effect of bio-oil composition and stability

open access: yes, 2018
Hydrogen can be obtained from biomass pyrolysis liquids by catalytic steam reforming. Catalyst deactivation by coking and the formation of carbon deposits are the major known limitations although the specific causes are unidentified. It is proposed that these limitations could be reduced by selectively reforming specific fractions of the bio-oil.
