Bioaccumulation and Biotransformation of Chlorinated Paraffins

open access: yesToxics, 2022
Chlorinated paraffins (CPs), a class of persistent, toxic, and bioaccumulated compounds, have received increasing attention for their environmental occurrence and ecological and human health risks worldwide in the past decades.

Use of isotope dilution method to predict bioavailability of organic pollutants in historically contaminated sediments. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Many cases of severe environmental contamination arise from historical episodes, where recalcitrant contaminants have resided in the environment for a prolonged time, leading to potentially decreased bioavailability.

Fluoride‐Free Adhesives for Low Surface Energy Fluorinated Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A universal, fluoride‐free adhesive achieves a record 4.91 MPa bond strength on PTFE by leveraging amine/amide dipole–dipole interactions, without fluorinated components. This sustainable strategy overcomes the environmental and performance limits of PFAS‐based adhesives, enabling robust, eco‐conscious bonding across diverse materials.

PRODUCTION OF Candida BIOMASSES FOR HEAVY METAL REMOVAL FROM WASTEWATERS

open access: yesTrakya University Journal of Natural Sciences, 2021
Yeasts can accumulate heavy metals and grow in acidic media. In the present study, it was shown that Candida yeasts in an aqueous solution accumulate single Cu(II) and Ni(II) cations.

Facet‐Engineered S‐Scheme Heterostructure With Enhanced Active Sites for Efficient Photocatalytic Degradation of Organic Contaminants

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The facet‐engineered ZnO/Zn3In2S6 heterostructure, dominated by {001} plane coupling, exposes abundant unsaturated Zn sites with elongated Zn─O bonds, directing photoexcited charge carriers along an S‐scheme pathway and suppressing recombination. Enhanced interfacial Zn adsorption toward bisphenol A and methylene blue further synergistically promotes ...

Comparison of Predicted and Observed Dioxin Levels in Fish: Implications for Risk Assessment [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
After comparing sampled and modelled dioxin levels in the tissue of fish near pulp and paper mill discharges, the authors argue that, until an improved bioaccumulation model is incorporated into EPA\u27s Risk assessment process, determination of human ...

Trap‐Assisted Transport and Neuromorphic Plasticity in Lead‐Free 2D Perovskites PEA2SnI4

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An artificial retina built from lead‐free layered perovskite (PEA)2SnI4 converts light input into a persistent photocurrent and sums successive flashes over time. Micro/nanocrystals integrated on electrodes act as synapse‐like pixels that perform temporal integration directly in hardware. This in‐sensor preprocessing merges detection and computation on

Seasonal dynamics of heavy metal bioaccumulation (Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn and Pb) in Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud. in Bardača fishpond [PDF]

open access: yesKragujevac Journal of Science, 2019
Paper monitors seasonal dynamics of heavy metals bioaccumulation (Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn and Pb) of emerged plant Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud. on two localities (Necik and Sinjak) in the area of Bardača fishpond (BiH-Republic of Srpska).

Different patterns of uptake and depuration of cadmium by periphyton community and a grazer species (Physa sp.): A mesocosm evalution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Widespread pollution by heavy metals generated by various industries has serious adverse effects on human health and the environment. Cadmium is a heavy metal recognised as one of the most hazardous environmental pollutants. It is a non-essential and non-
