Chlorantraniliprole: bioactivation in coffee seedlings and control of resistant Leucoptera coffeella populations

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Chlorantraniliprole enhanced growth and biomass in coffee seedlings infested by susceptible Leucoptera coffeella, while resistant populations limited its insecticidal performance. These findings emphasize both the bioactivator potential of chlorantraniliprole and the challenges of managing resistance in coffee leaf miner control.

Identifying resistance‐conferring cytochrome P450s in weeds: experimental strategies and practical considerations

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Identifying resistance‐conferring cytochrome P450s requires integrating weed characterization, gene discovery and functional validation. No single approach is sufficient to distinguish causal resistance genes from herbicide‐metabolizing enzymes. Abstract Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (P450s) play a pivotal role in metabolic herbicide resistance, yet ...

Integrating bioassays and transcriptomics to detect neonicotinoid resistance in Australian Bemisia tabaci MEAM1

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The Bemisia tabaci MEAM1 strain GR15‐1R shows partial resistance to neonicotinoids (bottom), which correlates with an increased expression of the P450 gene CYP6CM1 compared to the insecticide‐susceptible strain SU07‐1 (top). Abstract BACKGROUND Bemisia tabaci MEAM1 is a highly invasive and polyphagous pest species of agricultural and horticultural ...

Characterization of Cry2Ab2 resistance in Crocidosema sp. (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae): resistance selection, inheritance, cross‐resistance patterns, and fitness costs

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This article reports the first characterization of Cry2Ab2 resistance in Crocidosema sp. Resistance appears to be autosomal and incompletely recessive, with a major‐gene contribution and potential involvement of additional genetic factors, and did not confer cross‐resistance to Cry1Ac or Cry1A.105. Abstract BACKGROUND The soybean bud borer, Crocidosema

Evaluating larvicide performance against Culicoides sonorensis in semi‐field conditions

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This study evaluated the efficacy of larvicide products against Culicoides sonorensis populations under controlled semi‐field conditions. Larvicide efficacy against C. sonorensis declined over time, in different environmental conditions. In particular, precipitation and habitat disturbance influenced residual performance. Abstract BACKGROUND Culicoides

Rapid evolution and genetic basis of spinetoram resistance in Phthorimaea absoluta: evidence from six years of monitoring and laboratory selection

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Resistance to spinetoram in Phthorimaea absoluta is rapidly selected and functionally recessive at field‐relevant concentrations. Metabolic detoxification contributes partially, while cross‐resistance to spinosad and increased susceptibility to diamides and isoxazolines highlight practical options for resistance monitoring and insecticide rotation ...

Pesticide use in integrated pest and pollinator management framework to protect pollinator health

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 1691-1696, April 2025.
Integrated pest management (IPM) emphasizes non‐chemical methods, with pesticides as a last resort, while integrated pest and pollinator management (IPPM) integrates pollinator health into pest control strategies. Abstract Agricultural pesticides have historically been a critical tool in controlling pests and diseases, preventing widespread suffering ...

Long‐term impact of exposure to Royal Guard, a pyriproxyfen‐based bed net, on pyrethroid‐resistant malaria vectors from Cameroon using DNA‐based metabolic resistance markers

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2165-2180, April 2025.
We used recently detected P450 DNA‐based markers of pyrethroid resistance in both Anopheles funestus and Anopheles gambiae to demonstrate that although pyrethroid‐resistant mosquitoes have higher ability to survive and live longer after exposure to Royal Guard, this net significantly affects their lifespan, blood feeding ability and interestingly ...

Effects of timed LED regimes on tomato plant traits, performance of two‐spotted spider mites, and predatory mites (Phytoseiulus persimilis)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2300-2311, April 2025.
Light‐emitting diode (LED)‐based treatments for enhancing crop production and pest management have primarily focused on continuous treatments. This study, using Tetranychus urticae and Phytoseiulus persimilis, demonstrates that the timing of LED supplementation is crucial for designing integrated pest management strategies that improve both plant ...
