Biocentricity in Wilderness Management
BioScience, 1973protection, vegetational patterns in wilderness have been altered and the goal of naturalness compromised (Heinselman 1970). Concurrent with these changes in the biological realm are similar impacts on the recreational experience provided users. Use continues to grow between 10 and 25 percent a year (Frissell and Stankey 1972).

Biocentrists endorse the equality of species. But is endorsing the equality of species compatible with maintaining the health of humans, or should at least sometimes the health of humans be sacrificed for the sake of other species? In this article, I argue for the compatibility of biocentrism and human health.
