A chemiluminescence biochemical oxygen demand measuring method

Analytica Chimica Acta, 2007
A new chemiluminescence biochemical oxygen demand (BOD(CL)) determining method was studied by employing redox reaction between quinone and Baker's yeast. The measurement was carried out by utilizing luminol chemiluminescence (CL) reaction catalyzed by ferricyanide with oxidized quinone of menadione, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae using a batch-type ...

A double exponential model for biochemical oxygen demand

Bioresource Technology, 2006
Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) exertion patterns in anaerobically treated farm dairy wastewater were investigated on a laboratory scale. Oxygen uptake was typically characterised by a period of rapid oxygen exertion, a transitional "shoulder" phase and a period of slower activity.

Biochemical Oxygen Demand of Agricultural Runoff

Journal of Environmental Quality, 1987
AbstractUsing an electrolytic respirometer, agricultural runoff from seven crop and tillage practices were studied to determine the 5‐d biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5). Mean BOD5 concentrations for the practices ranged from 10 to 25 mg O2 L−1 as compared to 4 to 56 mg O2 L−1 for individual storm events.

Development of photocatalytic biosensor for the evaluation of biochemical oxygen demand

Biosensors and Bioelectronics, 2005
The photocatalytic biosensor of flow system using semiconductor TiO2 was developed to evaluate biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) levels in river water. Photocatalysis of sample was carried out in a photoreactor with TiO2 and a 6W black-light blue fluorescent tube as light source.

Oxygen Sag Models for Multiorder Biochemical Oxygen Demand Reactions

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 2004
The empirical biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) equation is expressed as a multiorder reaction equation of order n, then is combined with the dissolved oxygen mass balance equation to give the differential form of an oxygen sag equation for small rivers and streams for which dispersion can be neglected. The value of n in the BOD reaction is restricted to

Organic acids, biochemical oxygen demand and chemical oxygen demand in the soluble fraction of piggery slurry

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1983
AbstractClose, largely linear, relationships were found between volatile fatty acids (VFA) determined by gas chromatography, total organic acids (TOA) determined colorimetrically, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) in the soluble fraction of piggery slurries.

Determination of biochemical oxygen demand with continuous recording of oxygen uptake

Water Research, 1969
This paper describes an electrolytic respirometer which is applicable to routine BOD5 determinations as well as to biodegradability studies in a wide range of substrate concentrations. The instrument comprises six measuring units mounted in a thermostatic bath and works independently of changes in barometric pressure.
