Biochemical Oxygen Demand of Agricultural Runoff
Journal of Environmental Quality, 1987AbstractUsing an electrolytic respirometer, agricultural runoff from seven crop and tillage practices were studied to determine the 5‐d biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5). Mean BOD5 concentrations for the practices ranged from 10 to 25 mg O2 L−1 as compared to 4 to 56 mg O2 L−1 for individual storm events.

Determination of biochemical oxygen demand with continuous recording of oxygen uptake
Water Research, 1969This paper describes an electrolytic respirometer which is applicable to routine BOD5 determinations as well as to biodegradability studies in a wide range of substrate concentrations. The instrument comprises six measuring units mounted in a thermostatic bath and works independently of changes in barometric pressure.
