A new cyclic N-halamine biocidal polymer
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 1994A new biocidal polymer is described. The compound, poly(1,3-dichloro-5-methyl-5-(4'-vinylphenyl)-hydantoin), is prepared in a three-step synthesis from commercial polystyrene. It is insoluble in water and common organic solvents and acts as a contact biocide for contanainated water or air flowed through it.

Biocidal polymers active by contact. III. Ageing of biocidal polyurethane coatings in water
Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1993AbstractPolyurethane coatings prepared from hydroxytelechelic polybutadiene with pendant qua‐ternary ammonium salts (QAS) are able to kill microorganisms, these biocidal polymers were submitted to various ageing conditions. The activity remained constant after exposure to a very high number of bacteria (Escherichia coli).

Biocidal Activity of Phthalocyanine–Polymer Complexes
2018The aggregation behavior of iron, manganese, and magnesium phthalocyanine (Pc) with poly-N-vinylpyrrolidone and polyethylene glycol was considered in this chapter. Biocidal activity of iron and manganese Pc complexes with polymer in relation to nine cultures of microorganisms was determined.

Biocide Evaluation Against Sessile Xanthan Polymer-Degrading Bacteria
SPE Reservoir Engineering, 1987Summary This paper supports the use of formaldehyde at economically feasible concentrations as a biocide for EOR processes that use xanthan biopolymer. Its biocidal action against anaerobic sessile xanthan-degrading field organisms was clearly superior to three other biocides tested when 100% kill was used as the criterion for ...

Disinfection of Water by N-Halamine Biocidal Polymers
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 1995Two novel polymers have been tested in a filter application for biocidal efficacy for flowing aqueous solutions of microorganisms. A laboratory water pump was employed in the experiments to provide contact times on the order of 1-2 s/mL. The two polymers are N-chlorinated and N-brominated derivatives of a polystyrene hydantoin.

Biocidal activity of curcumin and cationic polymer possessing composites
Journal of Bioactive and Compatible Polymers, 2020There is a growing interest in new type of biocidal compounds with antibacterial properties against bacteria. In this study, new antibacterial synthetic materials bearing curcumin and cationic polymers were synthesized. In the synthesis stage, the methacrylate functional cationic monomer was synthesized via the Michael addition route by using 3 ...

Protection Against Pathogens via Biocidal Polymers
2005Abstract : The goal for this project was to establish feasibility for a surface modifying additive concept whereby the surface of coatings could be made antimicrobial. Proof of principle was established via the synthesis and testing of a generation 1 (Gen- 1) polyurethane antimicrobial surface modifying additive that killed challenges of P. aeruginosa (

New N‐halamine polymeric compounds were prepared by reacting cyanuric acid and polyacrylonitrile. Grafting of acrylonitrile monomer onto cotton linters was carried out and the product was reacted with cyanuric acid and finally was chlorinated. Cyanoethylation of polyvinyl alcohol was performed using acrylonitrile monomer to give polyvinylcyanoethyl ...
