A drought stress‐induced MYB transcription factor regulates pavement cell shape in leaves of European aspen (Populus tremula)

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 5, Page 2688-2705, September 2026.
MYB305a promoter expression increases in pavement cells as they grow and acquire their complex shape. Summary Leaf pavement cells of many plant species develop jigsaw puzzle‐like shapes in which neighboring cells interdigitate, providing an ideal model for the study of cell shape regulation.

Beyond the Shell: Reviewing the Ecological and Economic Impact of Trachemys scripta in Europe Over the Past 25 Years

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 36, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT The introduction of exotic species, alongside habitat degradation and global warming, is one of the most pressing issues in conservation ecology. Trachemys scripta is now widespread throughout Europe after decades of pet trade and releases and is often considered a threat to native freshwater turtles.

Comparative Analysis of Correlative Modeling Methods in Predicting North American Bird Abundance

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
This study compares nine ecological niche model (ENM) methods to predict North American bird abundance and finds positive correlations between environmental suitability and abundance. Results highlight the potential of ENMs for abundance inference, with newer methods showing good performance and demonstrating that simpler data inputs can be effective ...

Drivers of Stopover Distribution Across Two Autumn Migration Routes of a Long‐Distance Afro‐Palearctic Migrant, the Common Cuckoo (Cuculus canorus)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
We model autumn stopover distribution of UK common cuckoos across two migration routes, revealing distinct environmental drivers and key geographic hotspots. Iberian mountain systems and the Po watershed emerge as critical stopover regions, with climate, elevation, habitat heterogeneity, and hunting risk shaping route‐specific patterns.

Climate‐Driven Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Potential Distribution for Nanorana quadranus in China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
This study integrates an ensemble modeling framework and an optimized Maxent model to assess the current and future habitat suitability of Nanorana quadranus under climate change scenarios. Results indicate that temperature‐related variables, particularly the minimum temperature of the coldest month (Bio6), are the most important predictor of species ...
