Biocontrol potential of naturally occurring entomopathogens against Maladera formosae in corn–soybean rotated systems

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
We isolated three insect‐killing nematodes from Maladera formosae infested corn–soybean rotated fields, Heterorhabditis bacteriophora, Pristionchus sp., and Steinernema carpocapsae. Results from greenhouse and field microcosm studies indicate all three nematodes can infect and kill M. formosae grubs and persist through winter.

Effective chemical management of Aspergillus flavus and aflatoxin contamination in pistachio nuts and orchards

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The study demonstrates the effectiveness of various chemical fungicides in controlling Aspergillus flavus growth and aflatoxin production in pistachios, with cyprodinil, fludioxonil, pyrimethanil and flusilazole showing the most promising results. Abstract BACKGROUND Significant presence of aflatoxins (AFs) in pistachio nuts has been reported during ...

A review of bacterial disease outbreaks in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) reported from 2010 to 2022

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Outbreaks of bacterial infections in aquaculture have emerged as significant threats to the sustainable production of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) worldwide. Understanding the dynamics of these outbreaks and the bacteria involved is crucial for implementing effective management strategies. This comprehensive review presents an update on

The influence of pre‐exposure to marine heatwaves on the critical thermal maxima (CTmax) of marine foundation species

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Marine foundation species underpin some of the world's most diverse ecosystems but they are increasingly threatened by intensification of marine heatwaves (MHWs). Where MHWs exceed critical thermal maxima (CTmax), increased mortality and population declines can occur ...

Food web trophic control modulates tropical Atlantic reef ecosystems response to marine heat wave intensity and duration

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
In this study we showed that trophic control modulates the effects of marine heatwaves (MHWs) on species biomass dynamics in a tropical and pristine Atlantic reef ecosystem. Our study provides insights into how the strength of predator–prey interactions may generate different outcomes in face of intensified and prolonged MHWs. Abstract Marine heatwaves

Shared community history strengthens plant diversity effects on below‐ground multitrophic functioning

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 94, Issue 4, Page 555-565, April 2025.
The relationship between plant richness and below‐ground multitrophic functionality was stronger in communities with shared plant and soil community history. This work highlights the obscure role of below‐ground consumers on diversity–ecosystem functioning relationships.

BIOCONTROL AND PAIN DISORDERS

open access: yesMedical and Social Expert Evaluation and Rehabilitation, 2017
A man is a complex biological and psychological phenomenon comprised of different behavioral patterns. Just these behavioral patterns cause the development of many diseases. In the article different types of pain disorders are reported, especially in the field of neurostomatology. One of the most interesting trends of behavioral medicine is a method of

Integrated policymaking is needed to deliver climate and ecological benefits from solar farms

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
We call for public policymakers to identify appropriate opportunities to amend existing national laws that address climate and biodiversity separately to improve integration of multiple aspects of the climate‐nature‐land use nexus into policymaking by: (1) formulating ecological and socio‐economic indicators and metrics that are appropriate to underpin

Generalist predators function as pest specialists: Examining diet composition of spiders and ladybeetles across rice crop stages

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
By quantifying the diet composition of GAPs over crop stages, farm types and years, this study reveals that generalist predators have potential to produce a stable, predictable top‐down effect on pests in rice agro‐ecosystems. Therefore, promoting the field densities of ubiquitous generalist predators will likely enhance pest management and support ...
