MHD biconvective flow of Powell Eyring nanofluid over stretched surface

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2017
The present work is focused on behavioral characteristics of gyrotactic microorganisms to describe their role in heat and mass transfer in the presence of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) forces in Powell-Eyring nanofluids.

On the equations of bioconvective flow

open access: yesKyoto Journal of Mathematics, 1992
The bioconvective flow in a culture fluid due to the concentration of moving microorganisms in the fluid is considered. The basic equations are the equations of motion of the fluid and the concentration of the microorganisms. It is shown that a solution of the equations of equilibrium with given initial concentration exists and this solution is ...

Three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of Maxwell nanofluid containing gyrotactic micro-organisms with heat source/sink

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
This paper discusses the three-dimensional flow of Maxwell nanofluid containing gyrotactic micro-organisms over a stretching surface. The effects of magnetic field and heat source/sink are also considered.

Bioconvection in a suspension of phototactic algae [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics, 1996
In this paper we develop a new generic model for phototaxis in a suspension of microscopic swimming algae. Phototaxis is a directed swimming response dependent upon the light conditions sensed by the microorganisms. Positive phototaxis consists of motions directed toward the source of illumination and negative phototaxis is motion directed away from it.

Bioconvection pattern of Euglena under periodical illumination

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2023
Microorganisms respond to environmental conditions and often spontaneously form highly ordered convection patterns. This mechanism has been well-studied from the viewpoint of self-organization. However, environmental conditions in nature are usually dynamic. Naturally, biological systems respond to temporal changes in environmental condition.

Pattern wavelengths and transport characteristics in three-dimensional bioconvection generated by chemotactic bacteria

open access: yes, 2022
We conducted a three-dimensional numerical simulation of bioconvection generated by oxygen-reactive chemotactic bacteria. This study investigated the bioconvection patterns, interference between plumes, and the wavelength of bioconvection patterns.
