NATURAL BIODEGRADATION OF COPROSTANOL IN AN EXPERIMENTAL SYSTEM OF THREE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS OF JAKARTA WATERS, INDONESIA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Constraint of using bio-indicator (coliform bacteria) as an indicator of domestic (sewage) pollution in the environment with high environmental stress encourages the discovering of other alternate indicators.

Diamondoid diacids ('O4' species) in oil sands process-affected water. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
RATIONALE: As a by-product of oil sands extraction, large volumes of oil sands process water (OSPW) are generated, which are contaminated with a large range of water-soluble organic compounds.

Current Advances in the Biodegradation and Bioconversion of Polyethylene Terephthalate

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a widely used plastic that is polymerized by terephthalic acid (TPA) and ethylene glycol (EG). In recent years, PET biodegradation and bioconversion have become important in solving environmental plastic pollution ...

Joule‐Assisted Nanotherapeutic Urethral Stent (JANUS) for Spatiotemporal Theragenerative Treatment of Urethral Strictures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Joule‐assisted nanotherapeutic urethral stent harnesses a smart, biodegradable magnesium stent to orchestrate spatiotemporal theragenerative therapy for urethral strictures. Magnetically induced Joule heating enables on‐demand drug release and bacterial ablation, while simultaneously guiding urothelial regeneration.

PCL enzymatic hydrolysis: a mechanistic study [PDF]

open access: yesACS Omega, 2019, 2019
Accumulation of plastic waste is a major environmental problem. Enzymes, particularly esterases, play an important role in the biodegradation of polyesters. These enzymes are usually only active on aliphatic polyesters, but a few have showed catalytic activity for semi-aromatic polyesters.

Effect of environmental parameters on the biodegradation of oil sludge [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1979
A laboratory study was conducted with the aim of evaluating and optimizing the environmental parameters of "landfarming", i.e., the disposal by biodegradation in soil of oily sludges generated in the refining of crude oil and related operations. Oil sludge biodegradation was monitored by CO2 evolution and by periodic analysis of residual hydrocarbons ...

Bioresorbable and Wireless Rechargeable Implanted Na‐ion Battery for Temporary Medical Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐solid‐state bioresorbable Na‐ion battery is developed, composed entirely of bio‐eliminable materials. In vivo and ex vivo tests confirmed harmless disintegration of this implanted battery. Lifetime of the implanted battery can be precisely controlled by adjusting the dissolvable encapsulation layer's thickness.
