Biodesulfurization: a model system for microbial physiology research

World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2016
Biological desulfurization (biodesulfurization) of dibenzothiophene (DBT) by the 4S pathway is a model system for an enviromentally benign way to lower the sulfur content of petroleum. Despite a large amount of effort the efficiency of the 4S pathway is still too low for a commercial oil biodesulfurization process, but the 4S pathway could potentially ...

Biodesulf urization

Current Opinion in Microbiology, 1999
Microbial sulfur-specific transformations have been identified that selectively desulfurize organic sulfur compounds in fossil fuels. Recent discoveries related to biodesulfurization mechanisms may lead to commercial applications of biodesulfurization through engineering recombinant strains for over-expression of biodesulfurization genes, removal of ...

Solubilized coal as a substrate for biodesulfurization

Fuel, 1993
Problem areas in a multi-step coal desulfurization process were investigated. The process involves mild hot air oxidation, followed by alkaline extraction to separate the resultant humic acid molecules from the insoluble pyrite and ash, and microbial removal of organic sulfur from the solubilized coal molecules.

Biodesulfurization: How to Make it Work?

Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering, 2016
Desulfurization biocatalysts have been demonstrated to selectively oxidize and/or cleave carbon–sulfur bonds in a wide range of chemicals, yet an economically viable biodesulfurization process has not been developed. There are two reasons for this: failure to explore the full range of applications of biodesulfurization using existing biocatalysts and a

Biodesulfurization of the Tabas deposit coal by microorganisms

Journal of Mining Science, 2004
The results are presented for the investigations of sulfur removal from coal by a mixed culture of microorganisms. Optimal conditions of the process are established (pH, size of coal particles, pulp density, temperature, etc.). They make it possible to reduce the content of pyrite and total sulfur by 91.84 and 53.5%, respectively.

[Technology of biodesulfurization from flue gases].

Huan jing ke xue= Huanjing kexue, 2004
The desufurization in dilute sulfuric acid solution, acidic ferric solution, and microbial solution (Thiobacillus ferrooxidans) was studied in this paper. The concentration of ferric, pH value and time all affect the rate of desulfurization. The experimental results showed that in dilute sulfuric acid solution the absorption of SO2 was a physical ...
