Synthesis, Characterization and Application of 1‐Butyl‐3 Methylimidazolium Chloride as Green Material for Extractive Desulfurization of Liquid Fuel

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
The possible application of imidazolium ionic liquids as energy‐efficient green material for extractive deep desulfurization of liquid fuel has been investigated. 1‐Butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride [BMIM]Cl was synthesized by nucleophilic substitution reaction of n‐methylimidazolium and 1‐chlorobutane.

Onboard Miniature Jet Fuel Desulfurizer for Mobile Fuel Cell Power Systems

open access: yesEnergy Technology, Volume 12, Issue 6, June 2024.
This work describes a novel, lightweight adsorptive desulfurization reactor for onboard desulfurization of jet fuel in mobile solid oxide fuel cell systems. The 3D‐printed one‐piece stainless steel reactor is capable of reducing sulfur content in jet fuel to ≤1 ppm.

Exploitation of Bacterial Activities in Mineral Industry and Environmental Preservation: An Overview

open access: yesJournal of Mining, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Since the identification and characterization of iron and sulfur oxidizing bacteria in the 1940s, a rapid progress is being made in minerals engineering based on biological activities. Microorganisms can play a beneficial role in all facets of minerals processing, from mining to waste disposal and management.

Revisit to the biodesulfurization capability of hyperthermophilic archeon Sulfolobus Solfataricus P2 revealed DBT consumption by the organism in an oil/water two-phase liquid system at high temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The ability of hyperthermophilic archaeon, Sulfolobus solfataricus P2, to grow on organic and inorganic sulfur sources was investigated. A sulfur free mineral medium has been employed with different sources of carbon.

Genetic analysis of benzothiophene biodesulfurization pathway of Gordonia terrae strain C-6. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Sulfur can be removed from benzothiophene (BT) by some bacteria without breaking carbon-carbon bonds. However, a clear mechanism for BT desulfurization and its genetic components have not been reported in literatures so far.

Study of a desulfurization process to convert dibenzothiophene to 2-hydroxybiphenyl by Rhodococcus rhodochrous NRRL (B-2149) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
[Abstract] Actually, a great effort is being given to research on biodesulfurization processes, i.e., processes in which sulfur can be removed selectively from sulfur-compound moities without altering its British thermal unit.

The Study of Biological Technologies for the Removal of Sulfur Compounds [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sciences, Islamic Republic of Iran, 2017
Combustion of sulfur components of fossil fuels such as oil causes the emission of SO2 in the atmosphere and lead to the formation of acidic rain in the environment.
