Transfer Hydrogenation with Waste‐Derived Aqueous Solutions of Formic Acid Catalysed by the SulfoShvo Catalyst

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 18, Issue 24, December 13, 2025.
Transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl and olefinic compounds with the buffer‐free combination of waste‐derived, aqueous formic acid solution and the sulfoShvo catalyst at pH = 1 and elevated temperatures in pressure autoclaves. The OxFA process provides aqueous formic acid (FA) solutions of around 53 wt% directly from biomass‐derived byproducts such as ...

Pd/C‐Catalyzed Efficient and Selective Synthesis of Glycolic Acid from Ethylene Glycol

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 18, Issue 24, December 13, 2025.
A palladium on carbon catalyst system is developed for the synthesis of potassium glycolate from ethylene glycol, in up to 92% yield. Palladium on carbon catalyst is used to develop an effective and selective system to produce potassium glycolate, a salt of glycolic acid, which is an interesting chemical with uses in many industries including the ...

Life Cycle Assessment of Solvothermal Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework‐8 Synthesis: Is the Substitution of N,N‐Dimethylformamide with Glycerol Carbonate Environmentally Sustainable?

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 18, Issue 24, December 13, 2025.
Green Chemistry For Sustainability: The life cycle assessment approach reveals that replacing a toxic solvent (e.g., N, N‐dimethylformamide) with a bio‐derived, safer alternative (e.g., glycerol carbonate), in accordance with the 7th principle of green chemistry, is not sufficient alone to ensure environmental sustainability.
