The use of chloroplast genome sequences to solve phylogenetic incongruences in Polystachya Hook (Orchidaceae Juss) [PDF]
Background: Current evidence suggests that for more robust estimates of species tree and divergence times, several unlinked genes are required. However, most phylogenetic trees for non-model organisms are based on single sequences or just a few regions ...

Pulmonary development in Squamata: Insights from embryonic studies using micro‐CT
Abstract Background Pulmonary development in tetrapods is a complex process, especially within squamates, where single‐chambered, transitional, and multi‐chambered lungs can be found in adult animals. While the embryological development of the respiratory system of lizards and snakes was studied in a number of species between the 1830s and 1940s, the ...

ABSTRACT Coagulant Moringa oleifera lectin (cMoL) is one of the compounds involved in the application of M. oleifera seeds for traditional water treatment methods. The present study highlights the new biotechnological potential of cMoL lectin as an antifungal agent against Cryptococcus neoformans B3501 and H99 and Cryptococcus gattii R265 strains ...

Devastating Rio Doce mining disaster sends shockwaves through earthworm populations
Abstract The Fundão dam breach is considered one of the most severe environmental mining disasters globally, causing widespread changes to the soils of the Rio Doce watershed, one of Brazil's most important catchments. Given the ecological importance of earthworms to soil structure and dynamics, we investigated the richness, abundance, and biomass of ...

ABSTRACT Aedes aegypti, a critical vector for tropical diseases, poses significant challenges for studying its embryogenesis due to difficulties in removing its rigid chorion and achieving effective fixation for in situ hybridization. Here, we present novel methodologies for fixation, dechorionation, DAPI staining, and in situ hybridization, enabling ...

Abstract Biological invasion and climate change threaten freshwater ecosystems, potentially amplifying their impacts through interaction. However, empirical evidence on how future climate scenarios influence the invasion process and their interactive effects on native species remains limited.

Abstract Freshwater bivalves are globally distributed, diverse, and common in benthic communities. Many taxa, particularly in the most species‐rich order, Unionida, are declining due to anthropogenic stressors, while a small number of non‐native species have become increasingly abundant and widespread, commonly replacing native bivalve assemblages.
