Environmental determinism of year to year recruitment variability of European eel in a small coastal catchment, the Frémur river, north-west France [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The influence of environmental factors (mainly the river flow) on the year-to-year variability of European eel Anguilla anguilla fluvial recruitment in a small coastal River (north-west France) was examined.

DNA metabarcoding reveals wolf dietary patterns in the northern Alps and Jura Mountains

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Understanding predator–prey interactions is crucial for wildlife management and human–wildlife coexistence, particularly in multi‐use landscapes such as western Europe. As wolves Canis lupus recolonize their former habitats, knowledge of their diet is essential for conservation, management and public acceptance.

Identifier et restaurer les poches de diffusion de la biodiversité au sein de la trame turquoise : exemple d’un projet sur le bassin versant de la Bienne (Jura)

open access: yesSciences, Eaux & Territoires
La trame turquoise, plus qu’une fusion des trames verte et bleue, est un concept récent qui définit la zone d’interaction écologique entre milieux aquatiques et terrestres à l’interface des cours d’eau.

Season and human footprint weaken the negative effect of temperature on the intraspecific metabolic scaling exponent of wild brown trout populations

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
We apply a new parameterized model through linking metabolic scaling and the maximum entropy theory of ecology to quantify the intraspecific metabolic scaling exponent of brown trout populations and assess the main drivers shaping the exponent. Abstract Metabolic scaling fundamentally sets the pace of life in almost all organisms.

Population trends and variability within bird communities are amplified by intense land use

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
We show that bird populations in farmland have stronger long‐term changes and are more variable around these changes than in woodland. Disentangling these two components of population stability helps understand the effects of anthropogenic pressures on wild communities.

Seasonality in coastal macrobenthic biomass and its implications for estimating secondary production using empirical models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Macrobenthic secondary production is widely used to assess the trophic capacity, health, and functioning of marine and freshwater ecosystems. Annual production estimates are often calculated using empirical models and based on data collected during a ...

Repeated trends in altitudinal gradients of diversity: How habitat filtering and biotic interactions structure ecological communities

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that tropical butterfly communities show remarkably consistent elevational patterns of diversity and phylogenetic structure across regions with contrasting evolutionary histories, demonstrating how regional species pools and local ecological factors jointly shape biodiversity along altitudinal gradients.
