Sustainability Strategies in the Cocoa‐Chocolate Value Chain: An Analysis Using Stakeholder Theory, Global Value Chain Theory, and Resource Dependence Theory

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The cocoa‐chocolate value chain faces significant environmental and social challenges, driving firms to adopt sustainability strategies ranging from individual practices to third‐party certifications. This study investigates the factors associated with these strategies by analyzing 304 cocoa‐chocolate companies using firm‐level data from the ...

A Study on the Effect of Structural Compliance Placing in Soft Contact/Collision Properties of Multirotor Micro Aerial Vehicles

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article answers the question “Where is the best place to apply compliance in a multirotor micro aerial vehicle to make it more collision‐resilient?” by analyzing the output data of more than 1200 drone collision tests for four main configurations of micro‐quadcopters each possessing a unique softness layout of physical frame.

Putting climate change at the heart of education: Is England's strategy a placebo for policy?

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, Volume 48, Issue 6, Page 1083-1101, December 2022., 2022
Abstract In this paper we present an analysis of the sustainability and climate change strategy for education and children's services systems in England, produced by the Department for Education. Using critical discourse analysis, we juxtapose qualitative data collected from >200 youth teachers and teacher educators in the context of co‐creating a ...

Multi‐Module Micro/Nanorobots for Biomedical and Environmental Remediation Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Multi‐module microrobots (MNRs) have overcome the limitations of single‐module systems by integrating components such as propeller, actuator, manipulator, and imaging modalities. They show promise in biomedical applications, such as targeted drug delivery and tissue repair, as well as in environmental remediation, including pollutant removal.

Acid digestion and symbiont: Proton sharing at the origin of mitochondriogenesis?

open access: yesBioEssays, Volume 45, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
ADMit hypothesis for the origin of eukaryotes. A bacterial symbiont became associated with a protophagocytic host that captured prey with membrane processes. The symbiont cooperated to kill and digest the prey with reactive oxygen species and the acidification of the microenvironment.

Endosymbiotic ratchet accelerates divergence after organelle origin

open access: yesBioEssays, Volume 45, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Primary endosymbiosis gave rise to mitochondria and plastids. The proximate impacts of organelle origin on lineage evolution have not been addressed at the population level. Using data from the photosynthetic amoeba Paulinella, we hypothesize that primary endosymbiosis accelerates lineage divergence, a process we refer to as the endosymbiotic ratchet ...

Extreme fire severity interacts with seed traits to moderate post‐fire species assemblages

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Climate change is globally pushing fire regimes to new extremes, with unprecedented large‐scale severe fires. Persistent soil seed banks are a key mechanism for plant species recovery after fires, but extreme fire severity may generate soil temperatures beyond thresholds seeds are adapted to.
