Extrusion of Heterogeneous Filament‐like Structures: A New Paradigm in Fabricating Soft Mechanical Gradient with Long Span

open access: yesSmall Science, EarlyView.
An extrusion‐based technique to engineer a stiffness gradient interphase material that seamlessly bridges soft‐to‐hard interface without strain localization in multimaterial systems is presented. The gradient is obtained by spatial control of the distribution of reinforcing expandable microspheres in polydimethylsiloxane.

Specific Items of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery for Liver Surgery in Cirrhotic Patients: A Systematic Review

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways have been shown to be safe in patients undergoing hepatectomy. Due to cirrhosis‐induced complications, specific or additional perioperative items might need to be implemented. This study systematically reviewed the literature to assess specific items to be included in future ERAS protocol for the ...

Denning chronology in an Arctic brown bear population

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Denning is a critical behavioral adaptation for brown bears Ursus arctos to cope with winter, a period of extended resource scarcity. Bears reduce their body temperature, heart rate, and metabolism during this time to minimize energy expenditures. The Arctic has among the most pronounced and longest period of resource scarcity. Thus, we predicted bears

Longitudinal changes in peritoneal solute transport rate and the impact of lower glucose degradation product glucose dialysates

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, Volume 29, Issue 3, Page 471-478, June 2025.
Abstract Introduction Peritoneal solute transfer rates (PSTR) are reported to increase with time. Changes in PSTR were reviewed in long‐term peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients to determine whether lower glucose degradation products (low GDP) dialysates prevented an increase in PSTR. Methods PSTR was determined with a 4‐h peritoneal equilibrium test with

Impact of Frailty in Patients With Continuous‐Flow Left Ventricular Assist Device Therapy in End‐Stage Heart Failure: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Frailty significantly impacts clinical outcomes in LVAD recipients. This systematic review and meta‐analysis reveal that frail patients experience higher long‐term mortality but comparable short‐term mortality, hospital stay, and complication rates to non‐frail patients.
