Uptake of Seeds Secondary Metabolites by Virola surinamensis Seedlings. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Anal Chem, 2012
The major secondary metabolites and fatty acids occurring in the seeds of Virola surinamensis were monitored by GC‐MS during germination and seedling development. The role as carbon source for seedling development was indicated considering that both classes of compounds were similarly consumed in the seeds and that no selective consumption of compounds

Human mesenchymal stromal cells in adhesion to cell‐derived extracellular matrix and titanium: Comparative kinome profile analysis

open access: yesJournal of Cellular Physiology, Volume 234, Issue 3, Page 2984-2996, March 2019., 2019
Kinase‐mediated signalling pathways are the key mediators of signal transduction upon cell adhesion, regulating cell behaviour. For the first time to our knowledge, a PamChip® kinase array was used to comprehensively study kinome changes in human mesenchymal stromal cells upon adhesion to cell‐derived extracellular matrix and titanium.

Biochemical and Biological Profile of Parotoid Secretion of the Amazonian Rhinella marina (Anura: Bufonidae)

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Skin secretions of frogs have a high chemical complexity. They have diverse types of biomolecules, such as proteins, peptides, biogenic amines, and alkaloids. These compounds protect amphibians’ skin against growth of bacteria, fungi, and protozoa and participate in defense system against attack from predators.

Adulteration and Contamination of Commercial Sap of Hymenaea Species

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
The Hymenaea stigonocarpa and Hymenaea martiana species, commonly known as “jatobá,” produce a sap which is extracted by perforation of the trunk and is commonly used in folk medicine as a tonic. For this study, the authenticity of commercial samples of jatobá was verified by the identification of the main compounds and multivariate analysis and ...

Production of the Quinone‐Methide Triterpene Maytenin by In Vitro Adventitious Roots of Peritassa campestris (Cambess.) A.C.Sm. (Celastraceae) and Rapid Detection and Identification by APCI‐IT‐MS/MS

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Establishment of adventitious root cultures of Peritassa campestris (Celastraceae) was achieved from seed cotyledons cultured in semisolid Woody Plant Medium (WPM) supplemented with 2% sucrose, 0.01% PVP, and 4.0 mg L−1 IBA. Culture period on accumulation of biomass and quinone‐methide triterpene maytenin in adventitious root were investigated.

Biological Activities of Libidibia (Caesalpinia) ferrea var. parvifolia (Mart. ex Tul.) L. P. Queiroz Pod Preparations

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Libidibia ferrea has been used in folk medicine throughout Brazil, and this study evaluated the biological activities of crude extract (CE) as well as a partially purified fraction (F80) obtained from its pods. Results from the MTT assay revealed that only F80 inhibited NCI‐H292 cell growth; however, neither CE nor F80 reduced HEp‐2 cell growth or ...
