Electromyographic biofeedback and tricyclic antidepressants in myofascial pain-dysfunction syndrome: psychological predictors of outcome

Training in muscle relaxation using electromyographic biofeedback was successful in relieving myofascial pain-dysfunction symptoms in 15 of 23 patients. Half of the remainder were helped by tricyclic antidepressants. Effects of the therapies corresponded to psychological factors assessed before treatment. The implications of these factors are discussed.
