Production of hydroxyectoine from biogas by an engineered strain of Methylomicrobium alcaliphilum using a novel Taylor‐flow bioreactor

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 100, Issue 7, Page 1425-1433, July 2025.
Abstract BACKGROUND The production of compatible solutes, such as ectoine and hydroxyectoine, is of great interest due to their industrial and biotechnological applications. Methylomicrobium alcaliphilum was genetically engineered to replace a native gene with a heterologous one, aiming to enhance ectoine production.

Aerodynamic Performance Investigation of a Biomimetic‐Based Small‐Scale Horizontal‐Axis Wind Turbine: An Experimental Analysis

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 28, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT As the demand for power increases, installing small‐scale wind turbines can be an alternative solution. However, the main challenge for their implementation is the aerodynamic noise. With a view to minimizing noise, this study focuses on the performance investigation of a small‐scale horizontal‐axis wind turbine with NACA 4412 blades inspired ...

Novel Respirometry Measurement and Comparison of Monod Kinetic Constants and Methanogen Concentrations for 27 Full‐Scale Anaerobic Bioreactors

open access: yesWater Environment Research, Volume 97, Issue 7, July 2025.
Kinetic coefficients (km and Ks) and methanogen concentrations (Xac and Xh2) for anaerobic bioreactors were measured using novel respirometry. Values are needed to understand anaerobic biotechnology and modeling. Ostensibly due to microbial community differences, km and X varied over orders of magnitude.

Meta‐Analysis of Production of Volatile Fatty Acids From Waste Streams: Towards Creating Decision Support Tools for Process Optimization

open access: yesWater Environment Research, Volume 97, Issue 7, July 2025.
Meta‐analysis of 107 studies from North America showed a positive correlation between initial substrate concentration and VFA production, followed by temperature and pH. Initial substrate concentration was found to be a reliable predictor for VFA production.
