Effects of Deforestation and Fragmentation on Tree Beta Diversity and Endemism Across Landscapes in the Atlantic Forest Biodiversity Hotspot [PDF]
Habitat loss and fragmentation reshape biodiversity patterns around the world. Across 95 landscapes in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, we show that habitat amount, fragmentation, and spatial distance are stronger drivers of tree beta diversity and endemism than regional climate.

Mixing oak and pine trees in Mediterranean forests increases aboveground hydraulic dysfunctions. [PDF]
Mixing oak and pine trees enhances hydraulic impairments of all species, although diversity can mitigate drought stress during extended drought periods. Abstract Increasing tree species diversity in Mediterranean forests could reduce drought‐induced hydraulic impairments through improved microclimate and reduced competition for water.

The Early Development of the Blue-Eye Cichlid, Cryptoheros spilurus (Cichliformes: Cichlidae). [PDF]
We document the early development of Cryptoheros spilurus, highlighting rapid cranial differentiation, sensory organ formation, and fin development. Ontogenetic allometry and ultrastructural traits reveal functional adaptations for early foraging and locomotion, offering insights into ecological success and the developmental basis of cichlid ...

The complete mitochondrial genome of the Critically Endangered Saba Green Iguana, Iguana iguana (Squamata: Iguanidae). [PDF]
The populations of native iguanas in the Caribbean Lesser Antilles are threatened by the wide occurrence and spread of non-native iguanas. Until recently, competitive hybridization was not believed to threaten the Saba Green Iguana, a subpopulation of ...

Phylogenetic diversity and North Andean block conservation. [PDF]
Background The Northern Andean Block (NAB) harbors high biodiversity; therefore, it is one of the most important areas in the Neotropics. Nevertheless, the settlement of several human populations has triggered the rapid transformation of ecosystems ...
