Avian influenza overview December 2025–February 2026

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Between 29 November 2025 and 27 February 2026, 2514 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5) virus detections were reported in domestic (406) and wild (2108) birds in 32 countries in Europe. Albeit still at high levels after the peak was reached at the beginning of the current reporting period, the weekly number of detections has since ...

Modern Methods for Detection of Fentanyl and Its Analogues: A Comprehensive Review of Technologies and Applications

open access: yesMolecules
Fentanyl and its analogues represent a severe threat due to their extreme potency and increasing prevalence in illicit drug supplies. Even trace amounts (on the order of a couple of milligrams) can be lethal, contributing to a surge in opioid overdose ...

Microcystin‐LR Triggers Renal Tubular Ferroptosis Through Epigenetic Repression of GPX4: Implications for Environmental Nephrotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 9, 13 February 2026.
MC‐LR stabilizes DNMT1/3a by blocking their ubiquitin‐mediated degradation, leading to Gpx4 promoter hypermethylation and E2F4/NCoR‐associated transcriptional repression, which drives renal tubular ferroptosis in mice. Pharmacological inhibition of DNA methylation (SGI‐1027) or ferroptosis (Fer‐1) disrupts this DNMT‐GPX4 axis, thereby alleviating MC‐LR‐

Novel methods to estimate antiretroviral adherence: protocol for a longitudinal study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BackgroundThere is currently no gold standard for assessing antiretroviral (ARV) adherence, so researchers often resort to the most feasible and cost-effective methods possible (eg, self-report), which may be biased or inaccurate.

A Practical Classification Approach for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Hazards Based on Toxicological and Situational Parameters

open access: yesApplied Sciences
CBRN incidents are characterized by high uncertainty in terms of agent identity, dissemination methods, and situational context. This unpredictability complicates effective and timely response, especially in the initial phase before specialist services ...

Biohazard in Clinical Laboratories in Japan

open access: yesJournal of the Japanese Association for Infectious Diseases, 1991
This survey of occupationally acquired infections in clinical laboratory workers was made by questionnaires to 306 hospitals in which 698 doctors and 8654 technicians worked. There were 177 probable infections during the previous decade (1979-88). In both doctors and technicians annual incidence rate of infection was 0.2% on an average.
