UTILIZATION OF STORED PERIPHERAL BLOOD STEM CELLS TO SUPPORT SECOND HEMATOPOIETIC STEM CELL TRANSPLANTATION

open access: yesHematology, Transfusion and Cell Therapy, 2023
Aim: Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) is used to treat or cure a wide spectrum of conditions. Cryopreservation maintains the therapeutic properties of Peripheral Blood Stem Cells (PBSC), allowing clinical, regulatory, and logistical ...

A synthetic eco‐evolutionary proposal for the conservation of wild relatives of the olive tree

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Societal Impact Statement Crop wild relatives (CWR) are valuable sources of genetic diversity for plant breeding. However, the identification of wild untapped genetic resources (i.e., unexploited in crops) is not always straightforward. We propose a methodology to guide the identification and conservation of these resources that integrates both genetic

Evaluating predatory arthropods for the biological control of the invasive Thrips parvispinus (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) in greenhouse sweet pepper

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that Orius laevigatus, alone or with other predators, consistently achieved the highest suppression of Thrips parvispinus and improved plant productivity. Franklinothrips vespiformis coexisted with O. laevigatus, suggesting compatibility, while Amblyseius swirskii declined, indicating incompatibility. Individually, F. vespiformis and A.

Feathers and flu: identifying data gaps in avian influenza host dynamics to prioritize wildlife conservation Plumas y gripe: identificación de datos faltantes en la dinámica de hospedadores de la influenza aviar para priorizar la conservación de la vida silvestre

open access: yesWildlife Monographs, EarlyView.
We describe the host response continuum for highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIV), including the continuum of host responses to HPAIV infection and exposure based on the primary axis of host competence, ability to infect other hosts, and host vulnerability.

EFFECT OF BONE MARROW HEMATOPOIETIC PROGENITOR CELLS CRYOPRESERVATION ON TRANSPLANTATION OUTCOMES

open access: yesHematology, Transfusion and Cell Therapy, 2023
Introduction: Knowledge of cryopreservation of Hematopoietic Progenitor Cells (HPC) collected by Bone Marrow aspiration (HPC,BM) is limited. Aim: To describe the experience of a Cell Processing Center with HPC,BM cryopreservation for therapeutic use, and

It Takes Two to Tango: A Pluralist Account for Building Comprehensive Explanations in Human Evolution

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The evolutionary study of human dispersal is a key topic in biological anthropology. However, recent research has revealed inconsistencies between molecular and anatomical data across different timescales and geographic regions. Despite increased interdisciplinary dialogue, these discordances are rarely analyzed in depth or interpreted for ...

Reconsidering the role of introduced species in the climate‐affected and highly invaded eastern Mediterranean

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Bioinvasions are considered mostly as a biodiversity and conservation hazard, but in specific situations, introduced species can bring ecological or socioeconomic benefits. We assessed the social–ecological role of marine introduced species in the eastern Mediterranean Sea—a global hotspot of bioinvasions and extirpations—and their potential ...

Recolección de tejidos biológicos para análisis genéticos

open access: yes, 2017
La información genética es una fuente de conocimiento fundamental para la gestión integral de la biodiversidad. Sin embargo, la baja disponibilidad de tejidos biológicos bien recolectados y preservados limita la integración de esta información en la toma
