Spatial Structure Explains Morphological Variation Better Than Climatic Gradients in the South American Rattlesnake (Crotalus durissus)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
We evaluated whether climatic gradients or spatial structure better explain body size variation in the South American rattlesnake (Crotalus durissus) across its wide geographic range. After explicitly accounting for spatial autocorrelation, climatic variables were not significant predictors of body size in either sex, whereas sex‐specific spatial ...

Animal–Plant Interactions Under Defaunation: Consequences for Amazonian Trees of Commercial Interest

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
We experimentally investigated the effects of medium‐ and large‐sized mammal defaunation on the removal and fate of seeds from economically important forest species in Amazonian forests. Our results show that mammal exclusion significantly reduced seed removal, although the magnitude of this effect varied among plant species.

Social media highlights the overlooked impact of cats on arthropods

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 19, Issue 2, Page 460-465, March 2026.
The impact of domestic cats on vertebrate biodiversity is unequivocal; however, we still know little about their effects on arthropods. By analysing over 17,000 photos and videos from social media platforms (iStock and TikTok), we documented 550 predation events of cats on arthropods.

Critical areas for sea turtles in Northeast Brazil: a participatory approach for a data-poor context [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
Fishing is one of the main threats to sea turtles due to the risk of entanglement in lost nets, vessel collision and mortality due to incidental catches.

Esclerofilia, taninos e insetos herbívoros associados a Copaifera lagsdorffii Desf.

Linking Seed Size and Thermal Tolerance in Seed Germination of Hymenaea stigonocarpa, a Fire-Prone Neotropical Savanna Tree

open access: yesSeeds
The Neotropical Savanna (Cerrado) is a fire-prone biome characterized by seasonal climate, nutrient-poor soils, and variable fire regimes. While fire-induced germination responses are well documented in Cerrado plants, the role of seed size in mediating ...

Ameaças e especificidade de ações dos Planos de Ação Nacional para Conservação da Fauna no Brasil

open access: yesBiodiversidade Brasileira
O aumento das ameaças à biodiversidade e de extinções de espécies está diretamente associado às atividades antrópicas. O enfrentamento desse problema requer a priorização de ações conservacionistas e os Planos de Ação Nacional para Conservação da ...
