Analysis of Gene Expression in Aedes aegypti Suggests Changes in Early Genetic Control of Mosquito Development

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aedes aegypti, a critical vector for tropical diseases, poses significant challenges for studying its embryogenesis due to difficulties in removing its rigid chorion and achieving effective fixation for in situ hybridization. Here, we present novel methodologies for fixation, dechorionation, DAPI staining, and in situ hybridization, enabling ...

Contrasting CO2‐response strategies in Pardina lentils: Yield maximization in a commercial cultivar and seed composition adjustment in a landrace

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Assessing crop's responses to elevated carbon dioxide (eCO2) is crucial for global food security. This study examines the impact of eCO2 (700 μmol mol−1) on the cultivars of lentil (Lens culinaris), local Pardina Verde Rayada lentil (PVRL), and commercial Pardina lentil (PL) in terms of the productivity and nutritional composition ...

Nucleoside triphosphate diphosphohydrolase1 (TcNTPDase-1) gene expression is increased due to heat shock and in infective forms of Trypanosoma cruzi

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2014
Background Ecto-Nucleoside Triphosphate Diphosphohydrolases (Ecto-NTPDases) are enzymes that hydrolyze tri- and/or di-phosphate nucleotides. Evidences point to their participation in Trypanosoma cruzi virulence and infectivity.

Atmospheric dispersion of airborne pollen evidenced by near-surface and columnar measurements in Barcelona, Spain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Hourly measurements of pollen near-surface concentration and lidar-derived profiles of particle backscatter coefficients and of volume and particle depolarization ratios during a 5-day pollination event observed in Barcelona, Spain, between 27 – 31 March,

Uncertainty in aquatic greenhouse gas flux estimates arises from subjective processing of floating chamber time series

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Accurate quantification of greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes from aquatic systems is essential for constraining regional and global carbon budgets. Closed floating chambers are widely used to measure carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) fluxes at the water–air interface, yet large uncertainties persist due to subjective processing of chamber time ...

On the botanical history and nomenclature of the New World genus Piscidia (Fabaceae)

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Piscidia L. (Fabaceae) is a New World genus with nine recognized taxa (seven species and two varieties). The previous nomenclatural revisions, made in 1910 and in 1969, are revisited here. The names Derris grandifolia Heyde & Lux ex Donn.Sm. and P. cubensis Urb. required step II lectotypifications, with an epitype for the latter name.
