Use of human amniotic membrane as a biologic dressing

European Journal of Plastic Surgery, 1990
Human amniotic membranes have been used successfully for over 70 years for a wide range of surgical applications. This readily available, inexpensive, easily stored allograft has almost no antigenicity and has considerable antibacterial potential. Ability to reduce occurrence of exudate, adhesions, drying and scarring in surface defects are further ...

Amniotic membrane as a biological dressing in the management of burns

Burns, 1989
This report details observations in 90 patients with dermal depth burns treated using amniotic membrane. The patients were divided into three subgroups: superficial dermal, intermediate dermal and deep dermal burns diagnosed clinically. All patients were dressed with amniotic membrane which was changed daily.

Biomechanical and biological properties of cryopreserved canine amniotic membrane

2023
Amniotic membrane (AM) is the innermost fetal membrane. Due to its many known properties, human AM is a favorable corneal graft. Cryopreservation at -80ºC maintains most of biological properties. Due to shortage of supply, AM of other species are studied. The objective of this study is to explore the biomechanical and biological properties of canine AM

Amniotic membrane transplantation: structural and biological properties, tissue preparation, application and clinical indications

Eye, 2023
The amniotic membrane is a single epithelial layer of the placenta. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-scarring, anti-angiogenic and possibly bactericidal properties. The basement membrane of the amniotic membrane acts as a substrate to encourage healing and re-epithelialisation.

[The application and biological improvement of amniotic membrane].

[Zhonghua yan ke za zhi] Chinese journal of ophthalmology, 2007
The special structure and biological viability of amniotic membrane (AM) allow it to be an ideal biological material. Biological improvement of the AM opens a new research field and allows it to be used broadly in clinical practice. The histological structure, physiological property, immunological behavior, the history and current status of the ...

Human Amniotic Membrane as a Biological Source for Regenerative Medicine

2016
The application of the matrix and cellular component of amniotic membrane to increase the regenerative potential of injured tissue dates back to several decades ago. The positive effects of this application have led to the in-depth studies of the properties of human amniotic membrane as a biological modality for regenerative medicine.

[Biomechanic and biological activity assessment of concavity-convex amniotic membrane].

Sheng wu yi xue gong cheng xue za zhi = Journal of biomedical engineering = Shengwu yixue gongchengxue zazhi, 2013
This paper conducted research on biomechanical characteristics and biological activity of concavity-convex amniotic membrane (CCAM) and discussed its superiority as ocular surface repair material. Folding and compression with vacuum of fresh amniotic membrane were used to prepare CCAM.

Biological characterization of dehydrated amniotic membrane allograft: Mechanisms of action and implications for wound care

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, 2020
AbstractThere is a growing clinical demand in the wound care market to treat chronic wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers. Advanced cell and tissue‐based products (CTPs) are often used to address challenging chronic wounds where healing has stalled.

Use of Amniotic Membrane as a Biological Dressing for the Treatment of Torpid Venous Ulcers: A Case Report

Plastic Surgical Nursing, 2020
Chronic venous disease manifested as ulcers in the lower limb is a highly prevalent pathology in our population. Antiseptics and dressings designed to improve epithelialization are often used to cure the ulcer during outpatient therapy. Despite careful management, sometimes ulcers do not respond to treatment.

Enzymatic chemical modification of human amniotic membrane and skin as a means for the preparation of biological dressing

Burns, 1982
A non-antigenic biological dressing of amniotic membrane and skin was prepared by treatment with the enzyme ficin and dialdehyde starch. The dressing was tested in experimental animals for the coverage of full-thickness skin defects. The healing process was studied, as well as the durability of the biological dressing.
