The biological carbon pump and seaweeds

Issues of modern algology (Вопросы современной альгологии), 2023
The interest of researchers in macrophytes in the seventies and eighties of the last century was associated with the need to obtain technologically important products, and by the end of the last century, technologies for cultivating several important species of algae were created and put into practice.

Biological carbon pump in the Black Sea

Hydrosphere Еcology (Экология гидросферы), 2022
In the northeastern part of the Black Sea, the biological carbon pump is represented by both organic and carbonate pumps. The organic carbon pump consists of small-cell diatoms (mainly Pseudo-nitzschia pseudodelicatissima) and large-cell diatoms (Pseudosolenia calcar-avis and Proboscia alata).

The Biological Carbon Pump in the North Atlantic

Progress in Oceanography, 2014
Mediated principally by the sinking of organic rich particles from the upper ocean, the Biological Carbon Pump (BCP) is a significant component of the global carbon cycle. It transfers roughly 11GtCyr-1 into the ocean's interior and maintains atmospheric carbon dioxide at significantly lower levels than would be the case if it did not exist.

Carbon Nanotube Transistor Controlled by a Biological Ion Pump Gate

Nano Letters, 2010
We report a hybrid bionanoelectronic transistor that has a local ATP-powered protein gate. ATP-dependent activity of a membrane ion pump, Na(+)/K(+)-ATPase, embedded in a lipid membrane covering the carbon nanotube, modulates the transistor output current by up to 40%.

Biological carbon pump in the ocean and phytoplankton structure

Hydrosphere Еcology (Экология гидросферы), 2019
The process of carbon transfer from the atmosphere to the ocean floor is determined by three different pumps in nature: a solubility pump, an organic pump and a carbonate pump. The latter two are of biological nature. Phytoplankton is a key mediator of organic and carbonate pumps.
