Detection of Glycosaminoglycans in Biological Specimens
2023Proteoglycans (PGs) are macromolecules formed by a protein backbone to which one or more glycosaminoglycan (GAG) side chains are covalently attached. Most PGs are present in connective tissues, cell surfaces, and intracellular compartments. The major biological function of PGs derives from the GAG component of the molecule, which is involved in cell ...

Biological network border detection
Integrative Biology, 2017Abstract Complex networks have been widely used to model biological systems. The concept of accessibility has been proposed recently as a means to organize the nodes of complex networks as belonging to its border or center. Such an approach paves the way to investigating how the functional and structural properties of nodes vary with ...

Oxygen detection in biological systems
Photosynthesis Research, 2009This article presents a brief description of analytical tools for monitoring evolution and consumption of molecular dioxygen in biological organisms. Based on its nature as a gas and its physical and chemical properties of the ground state ³Σ(g)O₂; different approaches have been developed for quantitative determinations: (i) manometry, (ii) formation ...

The Detection of Cantharidin in Biological Specimens
Journal of Analytical Toxicology, 1979Cantharidin can be detected qualitatively by thin-layer chromatography and quantitated by gas chromatography using caffeine as an internal standard. These procedures were applied successfully to blood and tissues of animals given known mounts of cantharidin.

Buprenorphine detection in biological samples
Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (CCLM), 2005AbstractBuprenorphine is a narcotic analgesic used in the treatment of moderate-to-severe pain. In Italy, buprenorphine is now being used as an alternative in the therapeutic treatment of heroin abusers. Even if confirmation methods are needed for identification and quantitation, a rapid and sensitive test, such as an immunoassay, is essential for ...

The detection of homocysteine in biological systems
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1955Abstract Homocysteine on paper chromatograms forms a cherry red spot surrounded by a deep blue are when sprayed with ninhydrin, heated and subsequently treated with mercuric nitrate. The color reaction appears specific for homocysteine and is not formed by homocystine or homocysteine thiolactone.

Motif Detection in Biological Networks
2019 21st International Symposium on Symbolic and Numeric Algorithms for Scientific Computing (SYNASC), 2019The aim of this poster is to present a work in progress aiming to investigate the applicability of some recent algorithms proposed for functional motif finding in biological networks to infer information about antimicrobial resistance patterns.

Detection of Peroxynitrite in Biological Fluids
2003Peroxynitrite (ONOO(-)) is both an oxidant and a nitrating agent (1-3). However, unlike other strong oxidants, peroxynitrite reacts selectively with biological targets. This selectivity is derived in part from the different second-order rate constants (vary from 10(3)-10(6) M (-1) s(-1)) by which ONOO(-) reacts with biological targets.

Applying Molecular Biological Techniques to Detecting Biological Agents
Clinics in Laboratory Medicine, 2001Recent efforts in the civilian and military health care and public health communities are directed at strengthening surveillance systems and our national laboratory capabilities for early detection of infectious disease outbreaks. These new systems will address proper specimen collection, transport, nucleic acid processing, molecular assay diagnostic ...
