Validity and practicality of project-based learning teaching modules to train life skills Era Society 5.0 (bioentrepreneurship)

open access: yesJPBI (Jurnal Pendidikan Biologi Indonesia)
In the 21st century, Indonesian education must generate life skills for dealing with the era of society 5.0. Bioentrepreneurship skills are one of those needed to achieve the primary goal of society 5.0.

Differential production and secretion of potentially toxigenic extracellular proteins from hypervirulent Aeromonas hydrophila under biofilm and planktonic culture

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2021
Background Hypervirulent Aeromonas hydrophila (vAh) is an emerging pathogen in freshwater aquaculture that results in the loss of over 3 million pounds of marketable channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus, and channel catfish hybrids (I.

Piecewise deterministic Markov processes in biological models

open access: yes, 2015
We present a short introduction into the framework of piecewise deterministic Markov processes. We illustrate the abstract mathematical setting with a series of examples related to dispersal of biological systems, cell cycle models, gene expression ...

Toward Cultural Oncology: The Evolutionary Information Dynamics of Cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
'Racial' disparities among cancers, particularly of the breast and prostate, are something of a mystery. For the US, in the face of slavery and its sequelae, centuries of interbreeding have greatly leavened genetic differences between 'Blacks' and ...

Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

A new process foundation for the applied topos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The world is in turmoil for want of sound reasoning. Economics and the environment are but two of many areas of human endeavour badly betrayed through a failed combination of physical and information science and the rule of law.

CO2 Reduction on Copper‐Nitrogen‐Doped Carbon Catalysts Tuned by Pulsed Potential Electrolysis: Effect of Pulse Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that pulsed potential electrolysis significantly improves CO2 reduction performance on copper‐nitrogen doped carbon electrodes. The formation of cationic copper sites and metallic clusters as a function of applied intermittent potential leads to notable selectivity changes compared to potentiostatic reduction.

Fluctuating asymmetry and developmental instability in Protoreaster nodosus (Chocolate Chip Sea Star) as a biomarker for environmental stress [PDF]

open access: yesComputational Ecology and Software, 2015
Fluctuating asymmetry (FA), pertains to small and random departures from perfect symmetry of an organism's bilateral traits and has been used as a measurement of developmental instability and as a potential indicator of stress in populations. It measures

De novo [PSI +] prion formation involves multiple pathways to form infectious oligomers

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Prion and other neurodegenerative diseases are associated with misfolded protein assemblies called amyloid. Research has begun to uncover common mechanisms underlying transmission of amyloids, yet how amyloids form in vivo is still unclear. Here, we take
