Microbial biosensors for detection of biological oxygen demand (a Review)
Applied Biochemistry and Microbiology, 2011The review briefs recent advances in application of biosensors for determining biological oxygen demand (BOD) in water. Special attention is focused on the principles of operation of microbial BOD sensors; the information about biorecognition elements in such systems and the methods used for immobilization of biological components in film biosensors is

Modelling biological oxygen demand in wastewater of Arak City, Iran
Due to the fact that the laboratory analysis of biological oxygen demand (BOD) is time-consuming and uncertain because of some interferences during analysis, automatic estimation of BOD by modeling methods would be of great importance to researchers. The main aim of this study was to compare the performance of three models for the prediction of BOD in ...

Biological Oxygen Demand and Economic Growth: An Empirical Investigation [PDF]
Economic development frequently contributes to a decline in water quality; industrial effluents entering the water cause an increase of bacteria that strip the water of its oxygen, often then leading to mass die-offs of other aquatic life. However, the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) suggests that rising water pollution due to continuing economic ...

Biological Oxygen Demand in Soils and Litters
Eurasian Soil Science, 2018Biological oxygen demand (BOD) in mineral and organic horizons of soddy-podzolic soils in the forest-park belt of Moscow as an indicator of their microbial respiration and potential biodestruction function has been studied. The BOD of soil samples has been estimated with a portable electrochemical analyzer after incubation in closed flasks under ...

Optical Fiber Sensor for Biological Oxygen Demand
Analytical Chemistry, 1994We describe the first fiber-optic microbial sensor for determination of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). The sensing membrane at the tip of the fiber consists of layers of (a) an oxygen-sensitive fluorescent material, (b) Tricbosporon cutneum immobilized in poly(vinyl alcohol), and (c) a substrate-Dermeable polycarbonate membrane to retain the yeast ...

To rapidly determine the pollution extent of wastewater, the calibration models were established for deter-mination of Chemical Oxygen Demand and Biological Oxygen Demand in wastewater by partial least squares and near infrared spectrometry of 120 samples. Spectral data preprocessing and outliers’ diagnosis were also discussed. Correlation coefficients

Tidal fluctuations in biological oxygen demand in exposed sandy beaches
Estuarine and Coastal Marine Science, 1980Tide-induced fluctuations in biological oxygen demand (BOD) on two medium to fine sandy beaches were recorded over two separate 24-h periods in February (summer) 1979. Fluctuations in BOD of over two orders of magnitude were found with the highest occurring at or just after high tide and the lowest at low tide.

Structure—Activity Models of Biological Oxygen Demand
1984A structure—activity model of biological oxygen demand (BOD) has been developed. The independent parameters consist mostly of molecular connectivity indices (MCI), pioneered by Kier and Hall. A discriminant analysis model based on approximately 250 chemicals accurately classified 88% of the classifiable chemicals, producing approximately 11% false ...
