Examining Nitroxyl in Biological Systems

2008
Nitroxyl (HNO) has received significant recent attention due to its remarkable and novel biological activity and pharmacological potential. Unlike most other commonly studied nitrogen oxides, examination of HNO biology is not straightforward because of its unique chemical properties.

Dynamics of Biological Systems

2017
Abstract Through recent advances in instrumentation, neutrons access the hierarchy of molecular dynamics of biological macromolecules with unprecedented precision. It has for instance become possible to separate and quantitatively describe the superposition of the translational and rotational center-of-mass diffusion of proteins in aqueous solutions ...

Concept of energy in biological systems

Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, 1975
Beside the concept of material inputs and outputs of components of the representation of biological systems given to us by Rosen, the concept of energy is incorporated. The interaction of material and energy is represented by a cartesian product; and separate material and energetical mappings are considered as the new representation of components ...

Information compression in biological systems

Biological Cybernetics, 1987
In biological systems a high coordination between their individual parts occurs. The concept of coordination can be given a rigorous mathematical basis by the concept of order parameters and the slaving principle. We calculate the information of the total system in terms of order parameters and slaved subsystems.

The Kinetics of Biological Systems

2005
This section provides an introduction to the basic ideas of systems theory as applied to living organisms which is an important part of theoretical biophysics. Originally, thermodynamics, as a universal theory of energetic basis of all movements in nature, and kinetics, as a theory of time courses of predicted processes, were considered as two separate

Biological and Biologically Inspired Attachment Systems

2010
Many species of animals and plants are supplied with diverse attachment devices, which morphology depends on the species biology and on particular function, in which the attachment device is involved. Many functional solutions have evolved independently in different lineages of animals and plants.
