Challenges of Post-measurement Histology for the Dielectric Characterisation of Heterogeneous Biological Tissues

open access: yesSensors, 2020
The dielectric properties of biological tissues are typically measured using the open-ended coaxial probe technique, which is based on the assumption that the tissue sample is homogeneous.

Multicellular rosettes drive fluid-solid transition in epithelial tissues

open access: yes, 2019
Models for confluent biological tissues often describe the network formed by cells as a triple-junction network, similar to foams. However, higher order vertices or multicellular rosettes are prevalent in developmental and {\it in vitro} processes and ...

Perspective: Wavefront shaping techniques for controlling multiple light scattering in biological tissues: Towardin vivoapplications

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2018
Multiple light scattering has been regarded as a barrier in imaging through complex media such as biological tissues. Owing to recent advances in wavefront shaping techniques, optical imaging through intact biological tissues without invasive procedures ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Biomimetic artificial cartilage: fibre-reinforcement of PVA hydrogel to promote biphasic lubrication mechanism

open access: yesBiosurface and Biotribology, 2019
The fibre-reinforced structure in synovial articular cartilage plays an important role in enhancing the fluid load support in the biphasic lubrication mechanism.

Analytical and numerical analyses of the micromechanics of soft fibrous connective tissues

open access: yes, 2012
State of the art research and treatment of biological tissues require accurate and efficient methods for describing their mechanical properties. Indeed, micromechanics motivated approaches provide a systematic method for elevating relevant data from the ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Mechanisms of pulsed laser ablation of biological tissues.

open access: yesChemical Reviews, 2003
Author(s): Vogel, Alfred; Venugopalan, Vasan | Abstract: The mechanisms of pulsed laser ablation of biological tissues were studied. The transiently empty space created between the fiber tip and the tissue surface improved the optical transmission to the

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Splicing dysregulation contributes to the pathogenicity of several F9 exonic point variants

open access: yesMolecular Genetics & Genomic Medicine, 2019
Background Pre‐mRNA splicing is a complex process requiring the identification of donor site, acceptor site, and branch point site with an adjacent polypyrimidine tract sequence.
