The sensitivity of biological tissue to ultrasound

Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology, 1997
Mammalian tissues have differing sensitivities to damage by physical agents such as ultrasound. This article evaluates the scientific data in terms of known physical mechanisms of interaction and the impact on pre- and postnatal tissues. Actively dividing cells of the embryonic and fetal central nervous system are most readily disturbed.

Ultrasonic Characterization of Biological Tissues

Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, 1985
Ultrasonic imaging has become increasingly important as a diagnostic tool in medicine because it is noninvasive and it can provide valuable information otherwise unattainable. However, at present, clinical interpretation of an ultrasonic image still mostly relies on recognition of boundaries and positional relationship of anatomical structures and a ...

Biologic gels in tissue engineering

Clinics in Plastic Surgery, 2003
There are many different types of scaffold materials now available for tissue engineering applications. Hydrogels form one group of materials that have been used in a wide variety of applications. These hydrogels can be formed using natural materials, synthetic materials, or some combination of the two.

Cryogenic homogenization of biological tissues

Analytical Chemistry, 1983
Presentation d'une methode d'homogeneisation d'un echantillon biologique (tissu) par broyage de celui-ci a une temperature proche de l'azote liquide, dans un broyeur a boulet oscillant de ...

Light propagation in biological tissue

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
Biological tissue scatters light mainly in the forward direction where the scattering phase function has a narrow peak. This peak makes it difficult to solve the radiative transport equation. However, it is just for forward-peaked scattering that the Fokker-Planck equation provides a good approximation, and it is easier to solve than the transport ...

Nonlinear Spectral Imaging of biological Tissues

open access: yes, 2007
The work presented in this thesis demonstrates live high resolution 3D imaging of tissue in its native state and environment. The nonlinear interaction between focussed femtosecond light pulses and the biological tissue results in the emission of natural autofluorescence and second-harmonic signal.

Microwave-induced acoustic imaging of biological tissues [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Scientific Instruments, 1999
We present tomographic imaging of biological tissues by use of microwave-induced acoustic signal. It was demonstrated that the acoustic signal was proportional to the intensity of the incident microwave and was related to the absorption property of ...

Tissue Transglutaminase as a Biological Tissue Glue

2009
Surgeons have long sought an efficient biological method of wound repair that requires little time and minimizes discomfort for their patients, yet produces a good cosmetic outcome. Our aim is to develop a biological tissue glue based on the extracellular matrix stabilizing enzyme transglutaminase 2 to covalently bond tissue layers to promote suture ...

Biological Tissue Sensors

1990
Abstract : This paper describes the structure of a tissue electrode and the optimal pH conditions, as well as the effect of factors such as glycerine and the diameter of the nylon net holes on tissue electrodes. It also undertakes a comparison between tissue electrodes and other varieties of biological electrodes.
