Utilization of Biomass Ashes

2011
Useful application of ashes produced in the thermal conversion of biomass can contribute to the green image of biomass as a source of sustainable energy. This chapter gives an overview of the different forms of ash utilization that exist or are being developed for biomass ashes.

Utilization of Coal and Biomass Ash

2020
Sustainable utilization of the ash generated from the combustion of coal or biomass is a big challenge for the power industry. Huge quantities of ash are generated and, in general, they are disposed-off in ash ponds. However, recent regulatory requirements demand 100% utilization of ash.

Recycling of Biomass Ashes

2011
The feasibility of using woody biomass fly ash (WBFA) as a mineral admixture in cement-based materials was investigated. This fly ash was characterized for chemical composition and used to prepare a cement blend with 70 wt% Portland cement and 30 wt% WBFA.

Experimental study on ash fusion characteristics of biomass

Bioresource Technology, 2012
In this study, ash fusion characteristics (AFC) of biomass red pine, corn straw, Bermuda grass and bamboo are investigated. Results of this study show that ash melting temperatures are higher when samples are ashed at 815 °C than at 600 °C, but the differences are small.

Characterization of the Ash Melting Properties by Various Biomass Ashes

2014
For the high - temperature combustion of biomass, investigations were carried out in an electrically heated entrained flow reactor to analyze the fly ash by varying different parameters. Using torrefied biomass, birch, spruce and straw were used. In general, the main constituents of their ash fractions are K, Si, Ca and Mg, resulting in high alkali ...

Ash Behaviour in Biomass Fluidised-Bed Gasification

2005
In biomass combustion, ash deposit formation is a common problem and has been studied by a number of researchers [Miles et al., 1995; Baxter and DeSollar, 1995; Nordin et al., 1995; Bryers, 1996; Miles et al., 1996; Moilanen et al., 1996]. There are also some observations about operational problems in fluidised-bed gasification processes, caused by ash.

Study on the solidification performance and mechanism of heavy metals by sludge/biomass ash ceramsites, biochar and biomass ash

Environmental Geochemistry and Health
Industrial by-products are stored in large quantities in the open, leading to wasted resources and environmental pollution, and the natural environment is similarly faced with phosphate depletion and serious water and soil pollution. This study uses these by-products to produce a new sludge/biomass ash ceramsite that will be used to adsorb nitrogen and

Thermal Properties of Fly Ashes and Biomass Ashes Including Wood Bagasse Ashes and Sugarcane Bagasse Ashes

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2017
AbstractMostly disposed without treatment, fly and biomass ashes have been a challenge that threatens the environment. To use them as geoenvironmental materials for thermal insulating purposes, a fundamental studying of thermal property of the pure ashes is crucial.

Biomass ash as soil fertilizers: Supercharging biomass accumulation by shifting auxin distribution

Chemosphere
Growing quantities of biomass ashes (phyto-ashs) are currently produced worldwide due to the increasing biomass consumption in energy applications. Utilization of phyto-ash in agriculture is environmentally friendly solution. However, mechanisms involving the coordination of carbon metabolism and distribution in plants and soil amendment are not well ...

REUSE OF BIOMASS ASH AS AN ADDITIVE IN THE COMPOSTING PROCESS

2016
This work investigated the effects of using selected types of biomass combustion ash as an additive in the composting process. An experimental campaign was conducted where source separated organic fractions of municipal waste was mixed with 0%, 2%, 4% and 8% (w/w) of biomass ash. Both the composting process and the final compost quality were positively
