FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF THORACIC VERTEBRAL STABILITY SUPPORTED BY THE FOURTH SPINE

open access: yesColuna/Columna, 2022
Objective: In traumatic injuries of the thoracic spine, three variables are analyzed to make decisions: morphology of the injury, posterior ligamentous complex and neurological status; currently the fourth column is not evaluated; our objective was to ...

Biomechanical Aspects of Actin Bundle Dynamics

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2020
Lamellipodial and filopodial protrusions are two of the main aggregate types of filamentous actin in living cells. Even though filopodia are essential to a range of vital cell functions, the mechanisms leading to their formation are still debated ...

Magnetically Guided Mechanoactive Mineralization Scaffolds for Enhanced Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printed ‘rebar‐concrete’ inspired scaffold (PGS‐P@MGel) synergizes spontaneous biomineralization with magneto‐mechanical stimulation through PDA@Fe3O4‐embedded hydrogel. This dual biointerface activates Piezo1/β‐catenin/YAP mechanotransduction axis, enhancing BMSCs osteogenesis and angiogenesis simultaneously.

Fatigue behavior of removable partial denture cast and laser‐sintered cobalt‐chromium (CoCr) and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) clasp materials

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Dental Research, Volume 8, Issue 6, Page 1496-1504, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objective To investigate the fatigue behavior of cast and laser‐sintered cobalt‐chromium (CoCr) and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) material for a removable partial denture (RPD) clasps. Methods Dumbbell‐shaped specimens were digitally designed with the center part of the dumbbell being a half‐round shape at the cross‐sectional dimension of 1.25 ...

Jet Methods in Time-Dependent Lagrangian Biomechanics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper we propose the time-dependent generalization of an `ordinary' autonomous human biomechanics, in which total mechanical + biochemical energy is not conserved. We introduce a general framework for time-dependent biomechanics in terms of jet manifolds associated to the extended musculo-skeletal configuration manifold, called the ...

Scalable population-level modeling of biological cells incorporating mechanics and kinetics in continuous time [PDF]

open access: yesRoy. Soc. Open Sci. 5(8), (2018), 2017
The processes taking place inside the living cell are now understood to the point where predictive computational models can be used to gain detailed understanding of important biological phenomena. A key challenge is to extrapolate this detailed knowledge of the individual cell to be able to explain at the population level how cells interact and ...

Soft Pneumatic Device Designed to Mimic the Periosteal Environment for Regulating the Fate of Mesenchymal Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a custom‐made soft pneumatic device (SPD) that mimics complex mechanical forces and fluid flow to enhance in vitro cell differentiation. It shows that low mechanotransduction promotes MSC differentiation into osteoprogenitor cells, while high mechanotransduction causes structural disruptions and cell detachment, providing new ...

Templated freezing: a simple method may increase gripping force of the clamp on the tendon

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2022
Purpose To evaluate the effectiveness of combining a customized mold with frozen conventional clamps against other freezing and non-freezing methods. Methods Forty-five porcine and 45 chicken tendons were evenly divided into five groups (n = 9 + 9/group):

Pathological Water Science -- Four Examples and What They Have in Common [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Pathological science occurs when well-intentioned scientists spend extended time and resources studying a phenomena that isn't real. Researchers who get caught up in pathological science are usually following the scientific method and performing careful experiments, but they get tricked by nature.
