Assessment of Dynamic Knee Valgus between Lateral Step-Down Test and Running in Female Runners with and without Patellofemoral Pain Using Two-Dimensional Video Analysis

open access: yesClinics and Practice, 2022
Dynamic knee valgus (DKV) is a frontal plane knee kinematic alteration that has been associated with patellofemoral pain (PFP) in female runners. DKV is commonly assessed in clinical practice by measuring frontal plane knee projection angle (FPPA) during

The impact of body armor on physical performance of law enforcement personnel: A systematic review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background The law enforcement officer profession requires performance of arduous occupational tasks while carrying an external load, consisting of, at minimum, a chest rig, a communication system, weaponry, handcuffs, personal protective equipment and a

Supination resistance variations in foot and ankle musculoskeletal disorders: implications for diagnosis and customised interventions with wedged insoles

open access: yesJournal of Foot and Ankle Research, 2023
Background Supination resistance is a clinical outcome that estimates the amount of external force required to supinate the foot. A greater supination resistance may indicate greater loads on structures responsible for generating internal supination ...

3D In Vitro Glioma‐Neuron‐Astrocyte Biomimetic Composites Recapitulate Key Molecular Mechanisms Linked to Glioblastoma Multiforme Pathophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 22, May 29, 2025.
Glioblastoma multiforme is the most devastating and incurable brain tumor. To better study this disease, a 3D model is developed using a hyaluronic acid‐based hydrogel combined with a multicellular approach. This model recapitulates in vivo brain stiffness, cell‐extracellular matrix and cell‐cell interactions and the tumor's hijacking function with the

Framework for a low-cost intra-operative image-guided neuronavigator including brain shift compensation

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper we present a methodology to address the problem of brain tissue deformation referred to as 'brain-shift'. This deformation occurs throughout a neurosurgery intervention and strongly alters the accuracy of the neuronavigation systems used to

Biomechanics of Pediatric Manual Wheelchair Mobility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Currently, there is limited research of the biomechanics of pediatric manual wheelchair mobility. Specifically, the biomechanics of functional tasks and their relationship to joint pain and health is not well understood.

Jet Methods in Time-Dependent Lagrangian Biomechanics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper we propose the time-dependent generalization of an `ordinary' autonomous human biomechanics, in which total mechanical + biochemical energy is not conserved. We introduce a general framework for time-dependent biomechanics in terms of jet manifolds associated to the extended musculo-skeletal configuration manifold, called the ...

Scalable population-level modeling of biological cells incorporating mechanics and kinetics in continuous time [PDF]

open access: yesRoy. Soc. Open Sci. 5(8), (2018), 2017
The processes taking place inside the living cell are now understood to the point where predictive computational models can be used to gain detailed understanding of important biological phenomena. A key challenge is to extrapolate this detailed knowledge of the individual cell to be able to explain at the population level how cells interact and ...

Highly Efficient 3D‐Printed PVDF‐Based Triboelectric Nanogenerators Featuring Polymorphic Perovskite Nanofillers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the use of a low‐cost 3D printing technique to prepare a large‐area PVDF‐FAPbI3 composite dielectric film for flexible TENG application. The δ→α phase transformation of the FAPbI3 nanofillers has significantly improved the β‐phase content, morphology, and dielectric properties of the PVDF film.
