Hydrophone Measurements for Biomedical Ultrasound Applications: A Review

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control, 2023
This article presents basic principles of hydrophone measurements, including mechanisms of action for various hydrophone designs, sensitivity and directivity calibration procedures, practical considerations for performing measurements, signal processing methods to correct for both frequency-dependent sensitivity and spatial averaging across the ...

Compensated microwave thermometer for biomedical measurements

23rd European Microwave Conference, 1993, 1993
A balanced radiometer for medical applications is described. The accuracy of temperature measurements doesn't depend on the reflection coefficient. Compensation of the reflection coefficient can be achieved considering losses in the transmission lines and switch. Experimental results are also presented.

Efficient 41Ca measurements for biomedical applications

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2015
Abstract We present the performance of 41Ca measurements using low-energy Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) at the 500 kV facility TANDY at ETH Zurich. We optimized the measurement procedure for biomedical applications where reliability and high sample throughput is required. The main challenge for AMS measurements of 41Ca is the interfering stable

Physiological measurement in biomedical research

Physiological Measurement, 2004
The key to managing a process or system is accurate measurement. From an engineering viewpoint, accurate measurement and acquisition of system observers is a fundamental necessity in order to model, understand and ultimately control a system. From a clinical viewpoint, the basis of a diagnosis is derived from observations and measurements.

Dielectric volume measurements for biomedical applications

2009 13th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics and the Canadian Radio Science Meeting, 2009
We have developed a dielectric measurement system for recovering the properties of bulk tissue samples utilizing a specialized configuration of our microwave tomographic imaging system. We exploit the fact that the sample's location, shape and size can be determined a priori based on the known fixture geometry and integrate this with a soft prior ...

Application of air-borne ultrasound to biomedical measurements

Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, 1982
Remote measurement of distance, direction, size, form and volume are common but intricate measurement problems. We have applied the ultrasound pulse echo method, well-known from diagnostic ultrasound, for remote measurement in air. Short ultrasound pulses are emitted in air by electric excitation of an ultrasound transducer. When the ultrasonic wave is
