Biomethanation of agricultural residues: Potential, limitations and possible solutions

Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, 2021
Abstract Reasonable creation of renewable energy is being fervently debated. The biofuels, produced from food crops are restricted in their capacity to accomplish biofuel generation targets, mitigation of climate change and socio-economic development.

Biomethane production potential in Southern Italy: An empirical approach

Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, 2022
The European energy policy promotes the production of biomethane from biogas, and so many plants are reconverting from electricity to biomethane. This study has estimated the potential production of biomethane in Southern Italy, which typically has a Mediterranean climate.

Biomethane potential of fresh horse manure and straw-based litter

2023 Omaha, Nebraska July 9-12, 2023, 2023
Abstract. Manure management is strategic for improving the environmental sustainability of farming. Anaerobic digestion (AD) has been considered one of the most appealing technologies for the production of biogas or biomethane (or renewable natural gas - RNG), playing a significant contribution to the ecological transition.

Biomethanation and Its Potential

2011
Biomethanation is a process by which organic material is microbiologically converted under anaerobic conditions to biogas. Three main physiological groups of microorganisms are involved: fermenting bacteria, organic acid oxidizing bacteria, and methanogenic archaea.

Biomethanation Potential of Algal Biomass

2017
For meeting the ever increasing demands of energy in domestic as well as industrial sector, biomethanation from algal biomass could be an environmentally sound option for promoting renewable and sustainable source of energy. Algae efficiently convert solar energy into biomass and therefore they can be a potential feedstock for biomethanation process ...

Valorization of Distillery Spent Wash: Enhancement of Biomethane Potential Through Optimization of Inoculums and Substrates

International Journal of Energy Research
Utilization of distillery spent wash (DSW) as an energy source not only addresses the major environmental concern but also promotes sustainable energy practices. This study evaluates the biomethane potential of DSW through anaerobic digestion.

Ensiling parameters in vertical columns and multiple kinetic models evaluation of biomethane potential of ensiled sugar beet leaves

Biofuels, 2022
The quality of silages could deteriorate during feed-out to biogas reactors. Using airtight silos where silages in pulp form can be pumped directly into a reactor may mitigate this problem.

Influences of biochar in biomethanation and CO2 mitigation potential

Biomass Conversion and Biorefinery, 2021
The present investigation examines the use of biochar as a catalyst to enhance biogas generation. The effects of biochar on biogas production using different mass concentrations of biochar with cattle dung for hydraulic retention time (HRT) 60 days were evaluated.

Diplosphaera sp. MM1 – A microalga with phycoremediation and biomethane potential

Bioresource Technology, 2016
This study evaluated the potential of a microalga Diplosphaera sp. MM1 for its ability to generate energy through biomass production from wastewater remediation. 33% dairy wastewater and 50% winery wastewater demonstrated as promising alternative media for cultivating Diplosphaera sp. MM1 biomass.

Biomethane potential from herbivorous animal’s manures: Cuban case study

Journal of Material Cycles and Waste Management, 2021
Anaerobic digestion technology is a feasible alternative for wastes environmental treatment, nutrients recovery (as biofertilizer) and biomethane production. In Cuba, several wastes energy potentials have been evaluated, however, other biomass like horse manure (HM), rabbit manure (RM), and goat manure (GM) has been little studied.
