On‐farm testing of a dynamic model‐based corn nitrogen management tool—Adapt‐N—in Nebraska, USA

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 117, Issue 4, July/August 2025.
Abstract Growers may be reluctant to adopt variable rate nitrogen (N) management because of concerns about the risk of yield loss. This study compares corn (Zea mays L.) N rate recommendations from Adapt‐N, a dynamic soil‐crop‐weather model tool, with those provided by experienced grower research partners.

SimpleMating: R‐package for prediction and optimization of breeding crosses using genomic selection

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 18, Issue 1, March 2025.
Abstract Selecting parents and crosses is a critical step for a successful breeding program. The ability to design crosses with high means that will maintain genetic variation in the population is the goal for long‐term applications. Herein, we describe a new computational package for mate allocation in a breeding program.

European Biometric Borders and (Im)Mobilities in West Africa: Reflections on Migrant Strategies for Border Circumvention and Subversion

open access: yesPolitics &Policy, Volume 53, Issue 1, February 2025.
ABSTRACT This article argues that the European biometric ID installations and securitization practices at West African borders harm African migrants and compromise the security goals of Europe and Africa. Using Niger's experience, I contend that migrants' poor adaption to the biometric border processes is closely connected to their identity conflicts ...

A multiple trait assessment provides insights into the short‐time viability of a newly founded population in an endangered island passerine

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, Volume 27, Issue 4, Page 507-521, August 2024.
We evaluated the viability of a newly founded population of the endangered Gran Canaria blue chaffinch (Fringilla polatzeki). We performed a multiple trait assessment of genetic, body condition and breeding success data. Our findings suggest that the translocation program has been successful and provide insights on the effectiveness of the actions ...

Role of artificial‐intelligence‐assisted automated cardiac biometrics in prenatal screening for coarctation of aorta

open access: yesUltrasound in Obstetrics &Gynecology, Volume 64, Issue 1, Page 36-43, July 2024.
ABSTRACT Objective Although remarkable strides have been made in fetal medicine and the prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease, around 60% of newborns with isolated coarctation of the aorta (CoA) are not identified prior to birth. The prenatal detection of CoA has been shown to have a notable impact on survival rates of affected infants.

A new hybrid method for quick and accurate calculation of forest transportation distances

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, Volume 31, Issue 3, Page 1397-1425, May 2024.
Abstract Transportation is a key forest logistics component and is a large proportion of the overall cost. Often, the transportation cost is determined by contractual agreements and based on the loaded distance from a supply to a demand point. Many alternative routes provide different distances (e.g., shortest route, fastest route, minimum fuel ...
