Optical Stimulation and Monitoring of the Peripheral Nervous System: Perspectives and Challenges Toward Clinical Translation

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Optical neuromodulation with IR light allows stimulation of the PNS without the need for physical contact with the target nerve or without requiring any genetic modification. The clinical translation of this technique will pave the way to the development of neural interfaces for restoring sensory feedback in individuals with limb amputation.

Fabrication‐Tolerant GaAs/SiN Coupling Above the Loss Threshold for Quantum Photonic Applications

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Reliable low‐loss optical coupling between GaAs and SiN waveguides for heterogeneous integration of single‐photon sources is demonstrated. By developing a fabrication‐aware numerical design approach and accounting for experimentally measured fabrication variations and scattering losses, coupling efficiencies meeting the < 10% loss requirement for ...

Advances in deep‐tissue fluorescence imaging through optical clearing: A review

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Optical clearing refers to techniques that are used to improve the optical transparency of biological tissues. Optical clearing enables imaging of deeper lying tissues as well as 3D volumetric imaging of whole organs. This review examines reports on the integration of optical clearing with advanced fluorescence imaging techniques, with particular ...
