Self-Attentive Adversarial Stain Normalization [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained Whole Slide Images (WSIs) are utilized for biopsy visualization-based diagnostic and prognostic assessment of diseases. Variation in the H&E staining process across different lab sites can lead to significant variations in biopsy image appearance.

Pediatric endoscopic ultrasound‐guided liver biopsy: 3‐year experience

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Liver biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosing and staging liver diseases. Endoscopic ultrasound‐guided liver biopsy (EUS‐LB) has been reported in adults with equivalent or better safety profiles than percutaneous liver biopsies.

Cytokeratin 13 (CK13) expression in cancer: a tissue microarray study on 10,439 tumors

open access: yesAPMIS, Volume 131, Issue 2, Page 77-91, February 2023., 2023
Cytokeratin 13 (CK13) is a type I acidic low molecular weight cytokeratin, which is mainly expressed in urothelium and in the squamous epithelium of various sites of origin. Loss of CK13 has been implicated in the development and progression of squamous epithelial neoplasms. To comprehensively determine CK13 expression in normal and neoplastic tissues,

Safety and Feasibility of Pulsed Electric Field Ablation for Early‐Stage Non‐Small Cell Lung Cancer Prior to Surgical Resection

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Methods Surgery remains the standard of care for non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) but is applicable to ≤ 30% of patients. Pulsed Electric Fields (PEF) ablation uses short‐duration, high‐voltage electrical pulses to induce cell death without relying on thermal mechanisms.

Pilot Study to Evaluate the Association Between Superb Microvascular Imaging (SMI) and Histologic Markers of Angiogenesis in Patients With Invasive Ductal Carcinoma

open access: yesJournal of Ultrasound in Medicine, EarlyView.
Objectives Increasing microvessel density and angiogenesis are linked to a poor prognosis in patients with invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) of the breast. This study aims to investigate intratumoral and peritumoral microvascular flow using superb microvascular imaging (SMI) in patients with IDC and explore its association with histologic markers of ...

Cytological Alterations of Benign Thyroid Nodules Following Radiofrequency Ablation

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This prospective study of 312 patients with benign thyroid nodules treated with radiofrequency ablation showed a 3.84% progression to Bethesda III cytology, all confirmed benign by molecular testing, with an 88% volume reduction at 60 months and no major complications.

A Killian‐Jamieson diverticulum potentially mimicking a thyroid nodule: A case report highlighting the cytology of a pharyngoesophageal diverticulum

open access: yesCytopathology, Volume 34, Issue 1, Page 72-76, January 2023., 2023
The authors highlight the important contribution of rapid on‐site evaluation by the cytopathologist of a pharyngoesophageal diverticulum in a mass initially interpreted clinically as thyroidal in origin. They discuss pitfalls in avoiding interpretive diagnostic error and inappropriate thyroid Bethesda reporting.

Assessing the Accuracy, Safety, and Tolerance of Office‐Based Endoscopic Biopsies for Laryngopharyngeal Lesions

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This prospective study assessed the accuracy, safety, and tolerance of 490 office‐based biopsies for the diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal lesions. Results showed that OBBs, mainly taken from the glottic and supraglottic larynx, were generally well‐tolerated, with a low complication rate and high diagnostic accuracy.

Role of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of testes in male infertility

open access: yesIndian Journal of Urology, 2003
Fine needle aspiration of the testis, which is minimally traumatic, has questioned the need of a more invasive open biopsy in the evaluation of male infertility.
